This should be enjoyable to those who either just love the music or the history of radio or Houston too. There are lots of interviews from DJs I remember and a few I don't as well as music directors, Dusty Hill, Melissa Etheridge and other musicians. I learned things I never knew, heard lots of interesting and humorous stories and saw lots of clips and still images of musicians meeting or hanging out with DJs and in the studio. They discussed 97 Rock and I listened to them sometimes too, but I always preferred 101. I'm sure I have a stash of both 101 and 97 Rock bumper stickers around my home somewhere. I didn't realize it as a younger person, but that was a much fiercer competition for listeners like me than I understood. So much of this documentary had me laughing and there's so many of the DJs and scenes that bring back memories. They talk about how the DJs could play whatever they wanted and in my opinion that was great. When I listen to radio today it seems so sterile and pre-programmed."Head on Rock & Roll""If a segment of society wasn't complaining then you weren't doing your job" - Jim Pruett (of Stevens & Pruett fame)The FCC fined them, but it was viewed as a cost of doing business."Outlaw Radio"

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Depiction Of How Great Was … Warts and All

As someone who has worked in the radio business for over 25 years, this movie resonated with me on a number of levels.“Runaway Radio” walks a delicate line of duality by conveying just how great it is to be a part of the radio industry while also portraying how difficult it is to work in an environment where you’re suddenly expendable. The Telecommunications Act ruined everything. Thankfully, this film doesn’t shy away from that. They talk candidly about how corporate entities with no relationship with the audience corrupted a thriving industry. All the jocks along with the PDs and MDs reminisce about the golden age of KLOL and talk about the highs and lows they’ve encountered. While KLOL is the focus of this film, it’s a story that many of us old radio jocks can relate to all too well.A great documentary for radio folks and people who love art and music.
