These are really easy to use, you just drop a tablet into the washer itself, not the detergent loader, and do a cycle in hot water to give the machine a good cleaning to kill odors and break up hard water deposits. I try to keep my machine clean, but I do have very hard water where I live, and this did give me a small but noticeable reduction in calcium buildup, which was awesome. There was some residue of the tablet left after the first cleaning cycle, so I ran a second, and that got it all out and left the machine looking and smelling nearly as fresh as new! The main reason I was excited to try these was to kill that funky "old clothes" smell that gets in, which my natural vinegar rinse and other tricks just weren't eradicating fully. These definitely got the smell out, I was more than happy with the "fresh" scent of the machine and laundry loads it has given me since using the first tablet.The box claims these are a year's supply, so the 12 tablets are for once a month in theory, but the box also says for best results to use one tablet every two weeks, so... For my hard water, and large laundry loads, I think I'll go with the bi-weekly machine cleaning and call the box a half-year's supply. The results were excellent, definitely worth the effort, and I want to keep that fresh, clean machine shine and scent going. Definitely what my washer needed to freshen its "old clothes" odor. I'd choose these again and recommend them without a doubt.

I wasn't sure what to expect with the CLEARALIF Washing Machine Cleaner 12 Pack but I went to our HE machine and put one in. Put the machine to Self-Clean and let it rip. I had no idea that the cycle was 4 hours on hot water (and in our case steam). But I let it go. I looked back in about an hour later and the machine was churning away with a light bit of foaming bubbles going on.I came back the next morning, opened the door and saw no film. I was happy about that considering the package had noted that there might be a left over film. I did note that the plastic packaging remained in the washer. At the time it dawned on me that I should have removed the tablet from the packaging, but the item seemed none the worse as it appeared to have done the job.I could notice no difference in drum cleanliness, etc., but then it never seemed particularly dirty to me in the first place. However, my partner ran a load later that day and remarked that the tub no loner smelled slightly musty and asked if I had changed detergents or something. I said no, but indicated that I had ran a cycle with this cleaner. So maybe it does something. That is, it worked beyond expectations. 4 Stars means it did what it said it would do and I found no problems that kept me from liking the product or annoying me to the point of wanting me to do something about it. 3 Stars means that it worked, but it had a problem significantly annoying enough that I decided that it interfered with my enjoyment of the product. 2 Stars is that the product may have barely worked, but there were enough problems that made me desire to either return it or to use it grudgingly because it was pain in the toucus. 1 Star - it simply fails in all respects, and I'll tell you why.

First time in my life I have ever used a chemical to clean my washing machine.BUT - I honestly never had a reason to.I know now to leave the door open on my washing machine.I think this is the main reason machines smell.Even when I had a side loader - I would leave the door cracked open.And with my top loader - I just leave the lid open.I realize that leaving the lid open does not always look the best.And if you have kids, or the afraid what might get into the machine, then you close the lid.But - I did use the tablet.The magic ingredient really is just the amount of sodium percarbonate to use.AND using HOT water to activate the ingredient.My review does not compare other products or pricing of either same ingredients, or others that will clean washing machines.I did research to educate myself on sodium percarbonate, since I had never used such a product.Seems it can be used also in a toilet bowl.Or it comes as crystals, dry format.Once my pack runs out, I will research more as to what I will purchase for continual cleaning of my machine.
