5.0 out of 5 stars Instructions aren’t in box- scan QR code!
If you’re like me and misplace random cards and papers that come in packages, BE CAREFUL because the only instructions for this test are online…. Via a QR code that’s on one card in the box. I wish they put it in a few places!Everything else is organized well. There’s 3 little tools to prick your finger if you mess up. The box is labeled and ready to send off.In order to do the test, you have to fast (no food) for 12 hours and drink 12oz of water an hour prior. Super important! Test results might be invalid if you don’t do that.I’ve never pricked my finger myself, but it was pretty easy and painless. Very minor discomfort. I dropped it off and will update when I get my results!!
4.0 out of 5 stars Painful - Took two kits to get it right - But results were very helpful and I would do it again
The Azova heart health test offers a lot of different tests that I usually get twice a year anyway. However, I've never done an at-home test. I prick my fingers every morning with a lancet to check my glucose and that's easy. I assumed I would just do the same thing a few times to get enough for this test. Unfortunately, it wasn't that easy. It was kind of painful. And at the end, the card dried up before I could get enough sample on the squares so they rejected my test before I even sent it in. There was some user error involved, which I'll describe at the end so it will hopefully help you. I was advised to take the test again so they mailed a new kit to me.The lancets that come with this test kit are not like the needles in my glucose kit. These lancets cut wider and deeper than a traditional lancet. They are very effective! I bled a LOT, I just had trouble getting it to land in the right place. There are two squares that you must fill up and they should absorb down into the rectangles below. I dripped a lot of blood but not enough to get it to reach the rectangles. I continued to drip but it was just pooling up on the square and not absorbing any further. Would this be enough? We are instructed to take a picture of the sample and submit it for approval. I did that and was connected with a representative and that took a few minutes. I was told to add more drops because it wasn't enough, but the squares were too dry for that and it would not absorb more. Part of the process involves taking a photo of the card with the sample and sending it to them via the app. They rejected it because there was not enough for the test. They said they would need to mail me a new kit so I could start over. What I did wrong: I used the lancet on the finger I normally use for fasting glucose. I did not pay close enough attention to the directions that said to puncture my fingertip in the center of the tip and not the upper or lower side, which I normally do when checking my blood sugar. I punctured my fingertip on the side of the tip facing upward, the blood had to drip awkwardly and I could not turn my hand to correct it. I lost blood on the sink, down my finger, etc, and not enough was landing on the square. Round 2: I carefully followed all the instructions. Washed hands with hot water and rubbed them together, then jogged in place to get the blood flowing. Punctured my fingertip in the correct location. It hurt this time, too. Bled plenty on both squares as directed in the video on the app. They accepted the sample and I put it in the mail the same day. I mailed the kit on a Tuesday. It reached them on Friday. My results were available on Monday. The last time I had my labs done was two months ago. The results are similar but a little better. That's what I was hoping for because I've been working very hard on my diet and exercise. In a nutshell, I would do this test again. The first experience was almost traumatic. The second was much better.
3.0 out of 5 stars Takes lots of pricks - waiting for results
I am glad I noticed before buying that this is a mail in to lab kinda test, which is fair - since I do believe lab results are still better than true in home using test strips kinda tests. But Outch, it takes quite a bit of blood to fill the strips - and (yes I may be a wimp) but pricking you fingertips does hurt, especially if you needs them for typing etc - not for nothing did they include four (4) lancets, yikes! (And yes, I AM truly glad not to lean towards being a diabetic).I just sent this in, and am counting the time it will take to get my report - then I had a normal doc appointment and they drew blood for some of the same tests. - will become a great comparison. And I will update this to give my final assessment and updated results. For now 3.5 for the blood draw, and waiting for the results length.3.5 STARS⭐️ -> (*My RATE SCALE*: 5=perfect; 4=minor imperfections; 3=on fence; not sure if I’d buy again; 2= too many problems; 1= shouldn’t be sold or is dangerous).
1.0 out of 5 stars You are required to bleed a lot to fill up the squares on the card
I have a bruise on my fingertip now but I could not get enough blood out of my finger to satisfy the requirements. Although now my finger won't stop bleeding. They said to use additional fingers but I wil not be doing that because then you have to worry about the blood drying on the square before you can finish. You are supposed to milk your finger. It would essentially have to pour out in my opinion to fill up those 2 squares. To test my blood sugar I am used to sticking my finger, but this test requires a lot of blood. Even though I take aspirin I would not be able to get that much blood out.
2.0 out of 5 stars Not For Me
I did not realize this was something that had to be sent in and am not comfortable with that. Once I did realize that part of the process - I tried to cancel the order but was not allowed. Perhaps good for someone without insurance, but not for me.
5.0 out of 5 stars Talk about convenient
The AllHer at-Home Heart Health Test is incredibly convenient and with an N of 1 seems reliable. As a nurse it felt a bit like cheating to obtain the blood. I'm puzzled by complaints about the need for multiple poles and the blood amount needed; I only needed one poke and had more than enough blood. It’s likely a technique issue for the other reviewers. Following the instructions, I mailed it out the same day and received my results within a week. I compared the results with lab work done for life insurance recently, and they were nearly identical. This has convinced me of the test's reliability. Plus, it's a far better experience than sitting in a LabCorp waiting room. Highly recommended!
