5.0 out of 5 stars A lovely story to read aloud while being visually appealing
Just received two copies that I purchased for two little girls for Christmas! The book is a delight, a story for all ages! It takes us back to days of simple pleasures where children played outside all through summer while living close to nature. The young cousins have a great time out there in the beautiful lush countryside and have a sweet encounter with a little mongoose. As a teacher/librarian, I was always looking out for stories that could spark further exploration and wonder in my students, and this little book provides just that and more! I loved how the story ended, with the mongoose returning to the wild, but coming back to say goodbye! It has all the wonder and magic of R.K Narayan and Kipling.....so thank you Angy Ammachi and Ranjana for bringing this story to life!
5.0 out of 5 stars Full of wonder and adventure for littles
My 3 year old daughter loved learning about a mongoose in India who befriends a family of girls. The illustrations are beautiful and together with the text, transport you to a far away time and place but with familiar fun like catching frogs in puddles. Full of nostalgia and wonder, it’s an enduring memory that’s a joy to read to my daughter.
5.0 out of 5 stars A lovely story
What a lovely story - beautifully and personally told. I especially appreciate being transported to a time and place and community and energy I might never connect with otherwise. ❤️
5.0 out of 5 stars a story for all ages
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Angie Ammachi's story book. For a 97 year young her mind is sharp as a tack, evokes such vivid , wonderful and nostalgic memories of rural india and describes how a simple lifestyle brings so much happiness, fulfillment, peace and satisfaction.Kalyani the mongoose is a survivor, needless to say adorable and definitely knows how to stand her ground. Poor Bobby, the ferocious family pooch was put in his place by Kalyani. Kalyani even has babies of her own. The best part.I especially loved all the vibrant and colorful pictures.Kudos to Angie Ammachi and her beloved granddaughter Ranjana for writing and publishing this beautiful book, a story book that can be enjoyed by everyone regardless of their age.
5.0 out of 5 stars A story that reaches your heart
As I flipped through the pages, I found myself embraced by a comforting feeling of love, skillfully woven into each image. The illustrations brought to life the natural allure of Kerala, painting a vivid picture of its lush greenery that stirred nostalgic sentiments. I purchased 4 copies and I envision my nieces and nephews immersing themselves in the same gentle warmth. This book will touch the hearts of both the older adults who were fortunate to experience the close bond between people and nature in the embrace of the old Kerala. It's not just a story; it's a catalyst for conversations, a bridge connecting the tales of yesteryear from the older generation to the eager ears of the young. Kudos on a job well done—it's a heartwarming tribute and an exquisite way to perpetuate the legacy of your grandmother's story.

In the realm of children's literature, "A Mongoose Called Kalyani" emerges as a rare gem, brilliantly encapsulating the essence of life's simplicity and the profound bond with nature. This enchanting tale, a collaborative creation by a 97-year-old Indian grandmother and her grandchildren who used AI, is not just a book but a portal to a different era.The story unfolds through the eyes of the grandmother, narrating her childhood encounter with a bedraggled mongoose, whom she lovingly names Kalyani. They bring the story to life with a burst of color and imagination, making the rural landscapes of India leap off the pages. The grandchildren’s touch in the artwork is evident, as they blend traditional storytelling with modern artistry, creating a visual experience that is both nostalgic and fresh."A Mongoose Called Kalyani" is more than a children’s story; it is a cultural treasure that bridges generations. It educates the young about a lifestyle that values simplicity and harmony with nature, while offering adults a nostalgic trip down memory lane.
