A really excellent and worthwhile film. It deserves a wider audience; Bolo seems to have made it difficult to locate within their catalogue system, but if you have gotten this far, you have reached the promised land. It is truly a wonderful film, and you won't go wrong buying it!

Who's the monster? The question is only figurative - this isn't a monster movie. A mother becomes concerned when her son Minato becomes more and more distant. The boy doesn't want to talk about it, but what he does say sounds like the teacher may be abusing him. When she goes to the school, she gets a lot of apologies, but no one will tell her anything. The movie then switches to the point of view of the teacher who is well-liked and doing a good job but sees that Minato seems to be bullying another student. Still, something doesn't seem to be adding up. Then we see things from a third perspective and it all becomes clear. The monsters aren't who you think they are and this is a very different story than you might expect.The film is very good and I highly recommend it. Sometimes it was hard to follow because I couldn't figure out why the characters came to the conclusions they did or why they acted the way they did and I suspect that if I were Japanese, it would be obvious, but I'm not, so there were parts I had to watch twice before I understood what was happening. Still, I was overcome by the ending. What would you do if you were the monster?

Wonderful story about two boys who fall in love each other, even with its ambiguous ending. There is no monster, but real love.

Wish there was an english deluxe edition
This is possibly the best movie I've ever seen. This copy of it is exactly as described, although it's a shame there's no deluxe edition (there are no deleted scenes). The translation also includes some of the background text, although I don't know that it's really needed. The disc itself is exactly as described.
