We'd never had an issue with it and it had never acted up prior, so since it had been such a reliable model we decided to replace it with the exact same thing but the current model.I hadn't been aware that all microwaves sold after a certain time (I believe it's 2024) have to come equipped with a child safety mechanism where the door locks for a set amount of time after a cooking cycle is complete. I'm glad that feature is able to be disabled on this model, but it's my understanding that a lot of new microwaves don't give you that option. So if you're looking for a microwave that allows you to turn that feature off, you can with this one.The microwave itself has been great so far, everything is almost exactly the same as our old one but this one takes up less counter space (same size cooking area inside) and is super quiet. Maybe we'll get another 30 years out of this one, too!

When we needed to replace our 8-year-old countertop microwave, we bought another microwave with a good brand name. We discovered that, as of 2024, all countertop microwaves come with a locking mechanism. Now when our food or beverage was finished, we could not simply open the door. The door was locked. Now we had to push the "Unlock" button or hold the STOP button for 3 seconds.I read the manual, looked online, and called customer service to disable the lock but found that SHARP has the only models that allow you to disable the lock until you want to enable it again. All other brands only allow you to disengage the lock until the next time you use it. We took the other one back and got this Sharp microwave. Right on the door are instructions for disabling and re-enabling the lock and I disabled the lock immediately.It's so nice to have a microwave that doesn't lock you out!

Great counter top microwave, well made, and seems to heat fast. Easy to use and has all of the controls for basic heating. Have gotten used to the child lock so it isn't a big deal. However the stainless steel is actually white in color which is a bit misleading that is why I gave it 4 stars. It may be stainless steel in material but it is definitely white with black.

I've only used a couple of times, but this is the legendary SHARP CAROUSEL, so I'm not worried about anything. SHARP makes the best microwave ovens, period. Doesn't matter what size, or wattage, SHARP is the best.

I got a sharp 14 inch saucer for my wedding back in 2004. It lasted until about a month ago in 2025 this sharp product is awesome. Excellent and I give it five stars. Hope this one last as long.

The knob is easy to use. The display is easy to see. Replaced one just like it that lasted over 10 yrs. Hope this one holds up as well

I replaced my perfectly good SMC1131CB with this SMC1161KB for the following reasons.A great improvement over the same size microwave SHARP SMC1131CB.PROS:The panel numbers are easier to read in subdued light. The older version was very difficult to read.The display is BRIGHT. Note-It can even be turned OFF by pressing the stop after cooking and the door is closed. An apparent undocumented feature I came across.Some function improvements:Two stage cooking.Unlike the old version power level can be changed at any time while cooking.Push the start button ONCE= 30 seconds. Each push after that adds 30 seconds. The old 30 second button is gone.Slightly larger carousel.Improved carousel ‘seating’. Previous version was difficult to put glass back in correctly.Consult user manual to see all the added and improved features. You will likely purchase this model.IFFY CON:The interior is dark grey. great to not ‘show’ splatters but it make viewing the food more difficult to see even though the light is on during cooking.
