Color is just like in photos: a warm reddish-brown (mahogany). This is noteworthy, as my experience is that some shades of brown photograph much lighter than in reality. The color is very nice, even and deep; however, I had some very light color transfer with incidental contact to the toe. Since scuffing is inevitable with everyday wear, I recommend applying a color-matched cream polish followed by a neutral wax polish.Cushioning is very good with the insole, on the firm side but supportive. Soles are stiff out of the box; the padding on the collar is minimal, so that stiffness might lead to a bit of chafing at the heel (it did for me). The lack of padding here is my only complaint; hopefully as the shoe breaks in and the soles begin to flex more, the chafing will subside.Ecco EU whole sizing is always tricky. I wear 9.5M US for athletic shoe brands like Nike and Adidas. My experience has been that I'm a 9-9.5 US (43 EU) for Ecco sneakers, but an 8-8.5 US (42 EU) for boots and derbies/brogues. For the latter, 43 EU was very loose, even for the classic dress shoe shape which is narrow at the midfoot with a tapered toe. The Metropole derbies have a taller toe box and rounded toe, which is more comfortable but do give the shoe a more casual look. Other than a small "e" logo near the heel, there is no other outside branding – a big plus for those who prefer inconspicuous styling. If want a clean business casual look without chunky hybrid sneaker soles and bold branding – Cole Haan being the biggest offender – while staying at a price point and quality level above Rockport and Johnston & Murphy but below Allen Edmonds, Ecco seems to be one of the best options.

The leather and these shoes in general were just not quite as dressy as I had hoped. I had intended to wear them with suits, and they are very comfortable. But they do not quite have the appearance. I decided to keep them for less dressy occasions. The shoe strings are a little difficult to keep tied, and I will look for some waxed strings to replace these.

I recently bought my first pair of Ecco shoes and liked them so much I got another pair in a different color. They are comfortable even after hours of wearing and I like that they are not too shiny and the toes are not pointy like some dress shoes.

It says ecco, but it doesn't look like ecco, even, doesn't feel like ecco. I' had so many pairs of ecco in the past, and I can tell, these pairs of shoes is anything but Ecco shoes. Be careful and don't waist your money with these shoes.

Comfy good looking, but…
The media could not be loaded. Even after an hour of brisk walking on rough grounds, the sole still makes the embarrassing noise on non-carpeted floors, that sounds like dried-out rubber. Not sure if this will improve over the long term but in the office will certainly be loud enough to attract attention.
