It doesn't come with an AC adapter, and my PC USB doesn't provide enough power. But I was able to connect and power it just fine through my Laptop USB. Make sure to use a USB port that can provide enough power. They also give you a part number and instructions in the manual if you need an AC adapter.

Have had it for a week now. Burns blurays without a problem. Using Windows 11 to drag and drop the files and burn them. I purchased a USB C to USB C cable instead of using the one included in the box. It has a USB A to USB C adapter. Which is okay I guess if you only have a USB A port.It's very quiet when burning. I also use it to watch Blurays on my computer via PowerDVD 18. I didn't install the included software that came with it. Didnt have a need for it.

I was really excited to watch movies on my pc. I plugged it in and nothing. I was sent the base player. I checked the properties on my pc and it clearly shows bdr-xd08u not the 4k Blu-ray model which is the reason why I bought this.

Movies nights with the partner are always an easy hit with this. With my PC home theatre (originally with the intent of streaming everything), this is perfect for my needs. No issues with reading older, heavier used disks. Scrubbing across some scenes are not as perfect, but it is good enough for me. Design is sleek and can be hidden relatively well, when not in use. Installation was a breeze, I did not need any special software, all I have been using is VLC; everything loads up just fine.Also, ripping old simple CDs, before they rot away, was as simple as it can be. I know it is not the intended use, but I’d like to preserve my old media where possible.

Some have issues with it on MAC: not true, works seamlessly!As long as you have a decent USB-C cable: as I am never a fan of USB Type A to USB-C adaptor (shipped with one). I tried 2 USB-C to USB-C cables: One didn't work (drive start and spin but doesn't mount), the second that is more robust (from a Corsair Headset actually quite long), worked like a charm.Next was to test and backup some BlueRay, I havent found in Digital format = so ZERO issue with it!And nice too: works without any trouble on my PCs: Desktop (Win11) or Laptop (Win 11).Next test: running some backups over DVD-DL and BDXL.In 2024, Pioneer could provide a USB-C to USB-C cable.And at that price, a small carry case, would be nice, but hey it's Pioneer and the quality is there.

EDIT: Upgrade from 1 star to 4. I've got other software, and the hardware works fine. The clamshell is a nice feature.The PowerDVD download that comes with the optical drive is version 14. They're up to version 25 now. Subtitles aren't accessible, color displays as negative, chapters aren't accessible... I got a pop-up saying if I upgrade for $60, I'll get more features. That's the price for a brand-new copy of PowerDVD here, on Bolo, not an upgrade.My system isn't the one listed as incompatible.No reply from support, so I'm uninstalling PowerDVD version 14 and sticking with other (FOSS) software.

not sure if I will return it, I have many old CDs and they don't pop up easily on Mac, I have to pull it out and back in to see it, and the spinning is very noisy. I looks great but doesn't perform well. Pioneer gives you no Mac software, you have to figure it out. Watching Blue ray on a Mac isn't easy either, you have to buy software for that to happen. Pioneer is a good product, just doesn't work well with Mac.

Grabbed this because my PC, like many others, does not include a disc drive. I wanted a way to watch my Star Trek collection while I game. This was a pretty easy to set up; plug in, download the free software and start watching the pretty moving pictures. (FYI: many new PC's will not support SGX for 4K discs.) That said, Captain Picard's uniform bump is staggering in 1080p.

It was somewhat fiddly to set up to work with my laptop. There is a bit of downloading required. So far it plays CDs/DVDs and BluRay discs. I use it primarily to rip CDs into the computer. This needed no adjustment to the laptop and was faster than my previous drive. Pleased.

BDR-XD08EMB-S - Initial review of my first ever external DVD/Bluray drive
Having only ever had desktops with internal Bluray / DVD Rewriter drives, I was not sure what to expect.After an unsuccessful cheaper drive (which was not even recognised by my machine), I purchased this Pioneer BDR-XD08EMB-S drive and was pleasantly surprised:-Works with Ventura (Mac OS 13.4)-Plugs in (and works) with Thunderbolt-Considering it's external, it burned a DVD (4GB) in just under 10 minutes-Plays various Bluray discs-Noise levels is what you expect (sounds the same as my old internal drive); if put behind the screen / speakers, I found you can hardly hear it when playing a DVD/Bluray.-Would recommend 'Burn' for OSX as a DVD burner software: it's free-The only purchase I made was to pay for a bluray player software; used manufacturer directly, Apple Store was more expensive.-Comes with some Mac Software (Photo and Power Director) - not sure if these are trial versions but the licence key that came with the purchase worked.-Recognised by the computer as soon as I plugged it in (a bonus)All in all, I am happy with the purchase.May leave follow up if need be but that will be in a few months' time.
