I have looked for all-rye bead forever in local stores in US. I finally thought of trying Bolo and here it is! I am so excited to find food that does not trigger my gluten allergy and also is delicious. Even the "gluten free" breads I can buy here sometimes trigger my allergy, due to over-processing and added mystery ingredients, and they all taste like cardboard. Not this wonderful bread, which is both delicious and healthy! I read one review saying it was not good for sandwiches. Good grief, then just go buy the junk on the shelves (sorry). Each loaf has 7 thin, dense slices that work just fine for open sandwiches and such. I have eaten it plain, toasted with butter, with scrambled eggs, mashed avacados, and plan to try toasted with sardines, cream cheese with smoked salmon, etc. Another good thing is that is so nutritious and dense that it fills you up quickly. It keeps well in the fridge in an air-tight container, thus I I plan to get six loaves the next time...I would put it on auto-ship but don't trust Bolo not to throw it in a big box with other things, based on my past experience, but enough of that. If you are looking for healthy, flavorful bread that keeps well, this is it! If you have gluten allergies, try the two loaves and test. I hope you love it as much as I do. This makes me want to move to Germany. Yes, it's that good. Guten tag!

This is real pumpernickel. Reading some of the other reviews it seems like they were expecting the versions sold in most grocery store. This however is traditional pumpernickel made with only Rye, yeast, salt and malt then baked for more than 10 hours. It does not have wheat flour in it so the texture is completely different from other breads. This version is excellent and has the deep dark taste with a bite one would expect. In don't normally write customer reviews but don't usually spend $13 for 14 slices of the worst tasting bread I've ever eaten.It crumbles, it's tasteless and fit for the trash - which is is next stop.Doesn't taste anything like pumpernickel bread that I buy at our market. Forgot to purchase it the last time we went shopping so I thought I'd find something on Bolo.It has a long shelf life - but not going to sit long on my shelf. After the 'loaf' is opened, one must eat the six remaining slices within 5 days. It addition, each bad slice of bread has a hefty 32 gram carb count.Save your money and look elsewhere.

I love whole grain breads, but this isn't suitable for sandwiches. Horrible texture and bitter taste. Its ok as a toast in the morning. Thats the only way i'll eat it.

The 6-pack price is pretty good. 7-month shelf life from the time mine arrived. I go through one pack every two weeks. But, it looks like there are a lot of bad reviews from people who aren’t familiar with this stuff. Some insights:1) Every bad review about it being “crumbly” is because they didn’t toast it. I can’t imagine eating this not toasted. Toast it on the highest setting. It takes a while to toast this bread. I do one cycle on the longest setting, plus a little more after that.2) It’s called “bread” and technically it’s made with bread ingredients, but don’t expect bread like you get in a bakery or store.3) As soon as you open it, it needs to be sealed in a ziplock bag and put in the refrigerator. It’ll mold very quickly otherwise. Super long shelf life if unopened. Not once it’s opened. As mentioned above, it’ll last a couple weeks in the fridge in a ziplock bag.4) I love mayonnaise, on like everything, but for some reason vegenase tastes sooooo much better on this bread. The only reason I own vegenase is for this bread. It’s like a mellow aioli, and just compliments this bread fantastically.5) imo, this bread makes the best avocado toast there is.

This was the worst pumpernickel bread I have ever had. IT smells so nasty. No one in the home will eat it. Cannot make a sandwich with it falling apart. It just crumbles as you take it out of the bag. I've had some amazing pumpernickel from authentic bakeries. This was not edible. And they will not refund.
