5.0 out of 5 stars SMSL-SU-9 Pro. One very good sounding DAC!
I found this DAC to work and sound as well as the SMSL SU-10 DAC I purchased last August. It has two less inputs compared to the SU-10 but many folks won't use those and realistically, it's a no-brainer saving $400 and going with the SU-9 Pro vs the SU-10. It pretty much has the same SNR, dynamics and ultra-low distortion as the SU-10. It has zero issues decoding MQA streams from Tidal or any other type of CODEC through the inputs that it does have. It will also display the actual resolution sampling rate after decoding for any music material. I use both of these DACs as external MQA decoders connected to the Bluesound Node 2i in my large system. Bluesound optical out routed to one external DAC and the COAX out going to the other DAC. Each DAC sends the audio signal to a separate power amp connected to their own pair of speakers. There are zero "timing" differences. Each DAC is used as a preamp connected to their respective power ampsI'm very pleased with the SMSL SU-9 Pro. I only wish I could have picked it up at a lower price. Honestly, I'm a frugal consumer and have rarely purchased anything at the recommended retail price. Would I purchase it again for the same price? Yes, I would. It sounds great, looks good, has more than enough features to keep any audiophile satisfied, ultra low noise (non-detectable), great dynamics (some call "punch") and it is right around $500.There are other Chinese made DACs available that may have some of the above qualities but through my own testing results do not sound quite as good or do they properly process/MQA streams via all inputs if that is something you need or require. Both of the SMSL DACs I now have in the system come with identical remote controls. The volume level on the remote operates both of the DACS at the same time. One remote controls the volume for the entire system. Now, I have a spare new unused remote should the other one fail. I find this to be very handy.Depending on the audio system you have or the way in which you listen to music, or your music source, you may or may not need a hi-quality superb sounding DAC. However, if you want top-shelf quality sound that matches your high-end Hi Resolution audio system, this might be an exceptional addition to your system. I have no regrets.

I must be doing something wrong this things sounds awful!! I have a cobalt dragonfly that is 10 times better. Wow awful just awful. Tried all the different outputs and settings.

I am using this DAC with both outputs, Balanced and Unbalanced.Has performed flawless.I have Turned Off the "PCM FILTER", and use the USB Input from a computer to get great results.(Mostly used with MacOS latest version, audio device settings to 192khz, and Apple Music with Lossless turned on)BT Input sounds ok.Tried all possible settings, including sound color, and found that the greatest improvements is in the SOURCE, the better source material you input into this DAC the more it shines.Sound is clear and precise, most likely it will be the most accurate part of you hi-fi system.

Volume gets stuck, and you can't turn it up and down, on remote or the volume knob, unless you shut down the unit.It is better than Topping E70V, but more faulty.Now the frequency response is painful, after 30 minutes of listening to music, my ears were on fire.Midrange is missing, bass is good. Ears are hurting from high level of EQ rise in high frequencies, and high rise in bass response.With midrange well below both and very subdued.This is called a "smile EQ" in mixing/engineer talk. That is one of the worst things you can have in your music, or professional work or critical listening.My ears remained painful for the rest of the night after those 30-40 minutes of listening to music and playing games.I would steer clear away. At least for gaming. Music can be okay, if you don't sit close to speakers, or don't care about mid-range.Returned to seller.

This is my 4th DAC from SMSL. I have the M8A, SU-6, Sanskrit 10th and now the SU-9 Pro. The SU-9 Pro replaces the M8A in my primary system. There is a very noticeable improvement in clarity and articulation over the M8A. All of my SMSL DACs have performed well however, the SU-9 Pro is outstanding. This DAC is an excellent value. If it is possible to surpass its sound quality and performance, it will cost many times the price of this DAC. The DAC comes with 3 rubber feet installed which seems unusual. SMSL included 4 addition feet so that can be changed if needed. Shipped from China but arrived in less than half the time estimated.

The sound is very good. Cannot tell a lot of differences between the different sound filters. But that may be my ears.

Unit is very nice in hand, but after a song or two streaming from Tidal it stops making sound until I reboot the unit. Support is a bit of a pain as they have no contact except for an email address. Would not recommend this to anyone, will most likely eat the cost and just not buy another SMSL DAC.

My unit is stuck on locking signal now and USB no longer works. My SU-9n still going great after a year. This is somehow marked as having flammable liquid and isn't even returnable via Bolo.

Me gustó el detalle, escenario y su nivel de ganancia al usarlo sin filtros pcm, buen match con audífonos (sundara, ananda, akg k701, monolith m1060) aun con el monolith qué es menos detallado adquirió mejor medios y agudos.Como pre lo use con poder estéreo y monitores kef q350 y dali oberón 3 en ambos parlantes superó mis expectativas.

I found this DAC to work and sound as well as the SMSL SU-10 DAC I purchased last August.
