Hardware replacement install was easy, but gave up after a day of dealing with Google Home, Nest app, and Yale app. Android (S22) doesn't work at all to setup the lock and either prompts for a Max Hub (and there's no option to connect through that device) or Nest app, which wants Nest Connect. The Yale app doesn't connect on my phone. It'll connect from my iPad and I can lock/unlock from the app, but when I go to use the keypad, it keeps going into setup mode and won't take a code. Googling takes you down rabbit holes that are 3+ years old that seem to no longer be relevant as to whether the Hub Max is a thread hub. Seems like a great idea in that you're supposed to be able to connect to 'Google Home devices' or through Matter or through the Yale app, but none of it works on my two devices.*finally got it working with an iPhone, but only through the Yale app. It was the first device to go through the entire setup process to set an access code (which I was doing manually before) and prompt for guest access.

Installation is pretty straight forward. Build quality seems sturdy enough with a nice heft to it. It took me 40 mins to go step by step using the video instructions with verifying measurements for the door.Set up with the Google Home app could've been better. There's no prompt during set up to set your pin. If you try to use the Google Home app to unlock it before setting a pin, you’ll be greeted with an incorrect pin message. Too many failed attempts and it’ll temporarily lock you out. You’ll have to find the pin settings in the “Household & Access” part of the settings for the lock. You’ll be able to set a pin for each user of your household. Google dropped the ball on this crucial step of the process. Once the pin is set, it gives you an option to have Google Home app save the pin so you don’t have to enter it every time you unlock it from the app. Unfortunately, this did not work initially. I had to clear storage data from the Google Home app, uninstalled and reinstalled the app on my phone to get it to remember the pin.It comes with an Doorsense sensor to place next to the lock and lets you know if the door in the open or closed position in the Home app. There's no option for Doorsense notifications that I found, but it’s good to see whether the door is left open at a glance. Doorsense does require calibration which takes about 5 mins.There's 4 options for locking/unlocking. You can use a physical key (1 included), pin entry on the keypad, Google Home app, or using a voice command with the Google assistant. The assistant does ask you to say the pin out loud to lock/unlock, so keep that in mind if you have people around.Other features include auto locking after a certain period of time (currently only 30 secs to 2 mins) and a vacation mode, which disables the keypad when you're away.Since this is a Google Home preferred product, this will not work with the Yale app if you're using it with Google Home.Overall it's a good entry level Lock. I wished more options were included such as location proximity that locks or unlocks based on your location. Funny enough, that feature is advertised in the manual. Maybe in a future update. Once you get this lock up and running as it should, it’s great. Just make sure whatever Matter hub you’re using is within range. I’m currently using a Google 4K TV streamer as the matter hub.

Within the first week of installing and using this product and I'm very happy this. I have had no issues other reviews complain about regarding integration with Google Home. The one-click unlock / lock works for me.Installing the door lock was faster than I had anticipated and the instructions were very clear and of high quality.The product is both simple, attractive, and functional. I plan to purchase two more for other doors. I can't yet talk about battery life, but if it the Matter protocol does what it is supposed to and I get within the ballpark of 12-months then I'll be very happy.Overall, strong recommendation for this.
2.0 out of 5 stars Only seems to connect to Google Hubs - not other Matter over Thread hubs (at least in USA)
Hardware installation was fairly straightforward. However, it will not connect to my home network - only the app (bluetooth only). All the info states it is compatible with Matter over Thread hubs - I have many - Echo, Eero, SmartThings. You supposedly go into the Yale Home app and enable Matter and then connect to whichever hub you want. Unfortunately, in the US, this app is NOT available. You have to use the Yale Access app which does not appear to have an option to enable Matter. I have emailed support (Yale) but haven't heard back yet. I really don't want to have to purchase a Google Hub just to connect this device. If that is the case, they should make that very clear in the documentation.
