It’s just literally a pan. My other cheese melters have a stand you can place the pan on while melting the cheese. It’s going to work, but who wants to hold the plan the whole time you’re having a raclette dinner?!

Yes, it melts cheese. Yes, it mostly doesn't stick. However, I can also do that with my nonstick or even cast iron pan. In fact, my current pans do it better, and all while knowing there's no toxic chemicals. The carbon steel doesn't seem seasoned, but has a nonstick coating instead. Probably explains why the temp is limited to 392 F. Even with a nonstick coating, there were small points where cheese stuck even after scraping with the cheap plastic spatula (which probably would melt at extended contact with the hot pan)And even though they say it is safe up to 392, it doesn't take into account that this thing is so flimsy, it warps at temps well below that.Other than cheese, this one trick pony isn't good for much, and even some of your pans at home can do a better job.

This is such a handy little item! I'd never seen or heard of cheese-melt pan (also called a Raclette, if you're fancy), so I was intrigued to see this on my Bolo list. It's a little Teflon coated tray, with a wooden handle, and a handy plastic shovel thing. You place a piece of cheese, or shredded cheese, on the pan, then use your outdoor grill, or indoor burner, to melt the cheese. Then you use the little shovel tool to scrape the melted cheese from the pan onto a burger, or whatever tasty thing you want cheese on. It's not very large, so you might have to fold or cut standard pieces of cheese. I thought using it for individual burgers would take forever, but it heats up fast, and melts the cheese quickly. As another reviewer noted, the wooden handle, though cute and functional, does make it hard to use on the grill. You definitely need hot pads or something to protect your fingers. My husband used it on the grill by leaving the handle hanging off the front edge of the grill. The cheese still melted quickly, and it's nice that you don't have a lump of semi-melted cheese slipping off the sides of your burger as it cooks. The little shovel works well to scoop the cheese onto wherever you need it, leaving no melty mess behind. I may not have ever thought I needed this, but I'm so glad to have it!!

This thing is the coolest. It's a metal tray/pan with a Teflon coating on it. The set comes with a folding handle (wire on the outside and wood on the inside-careful when grilling). It also comes with a high temp plastic tool to help the cheese slide off the pan. It really works! I've used it indoors on the flat skillet part of my range (pictured) and on the grill. Make sure you use a potholder to touch the handle. The wire of the handle gets hot quickly. I used regular shredded cheese, and this heated up quickly, and melted fast. The plastic spatula tool pushed the melted cheese off the pan easily onto your burger or whatever you are cooking. Allowing the cheese to cook just a little longer turns it into a crisp! This is truly amazing. Those little bags of cheese crisps for salads can be pretty pricey at the store. In just a few minutes this will make better tasting ones! This tool is a surprise and a joy to have. You never knew you needed this, but you do!
