I joked with my cats that it was time for them to stop living at home for free and pay their way. I already use other devices: Aerobin, FoodCycler, and Subpod. I wanted to separate the cats waste from the compost I use in my veggie garden. My plan was to use the cat waste only in flower beds away from edible plants.I read up on the Bokashi method. Some use this method in addition to vermicomposting for processing pet waste. I was looking to compost my cats poo using the bokashi method and then use GEME to heat treat. This device uses the aerobic fermentation method, which we call hot composting.During the fermentation, the GEME-Kobold (a heat-resistant composite microbial group) and the industrial-grade purification system can deodorize itself. If using bio-cat litter, you don't need to pre-treat it using the bokashi method and put it directly into GEME.I live in the Northern Hemisphere and must switch from composting outdoors in the spring and summer to indoors in the winter. Composting outdoors slows, and the vermicomposting worms who live outdoors in the Subpods are moved indoors for the winter to rest, eat, and produce worm castings, which will be used in the spring for starting seedlings.Of course you could dig a hole in the yard, insert a bucket with a top on, drill some holes. Once filled, you dig another hole in the yard and repeat the process. Given I live in a state with four seasons, once the ground freezes and snow take over, the only option is to throw the waste in the trash or store it until spring in an air tight container. Eau de poo, no thank you.At first the GEME worked fine, then after a couple of months it stopped processing the waste and began to pile up (see the before photo). I contacted the company. Upon reviewing my amateur photos and video, they knew what the problem was and quickly provided a solution by swapping out an old part for the new. I am one of the early users. A known defect with the first generation has since been correced and improved. It's now working again. In the past, I didn't include the cat litter. Different opinions made me cautious to add it, but a representative from the company said it was okay as long as it is bio waste. I use pine pellets. Since I live in the Northern Hemisphere, when the bin becomes full (during winter), I put the excess compost in a container to use in the spring. You may be looking at the price and asking yourself, "is it worth the cost?" I can tell you; it is worth the investment. I live in the Midwest, and my state has experienced drought the last two years. I learned by adding compost and topsoil, soil retains more water and reduces the amount of watering (I only use rain barrels). I no longer throw away kitchen waste, have reduced garbage going into the bin (less to lift), and spend less time pulling weeds out of the garden. It's been a win-win.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great product and great customer service - ideal gift for anyone setting up a new home.
As described by other customers, this composter is great considering quietness, capacity, and appearance. I will add that Geme customer service is also responsive and helpful. Our unit had an issue as it turns out and intermittently tripped our kitchen circuit breaker. Geme support helped us troubleshoot and ultimately decided to give us a replacement. Returning via ground shipping was cost free and easy. So far, no problems with the new unit and we’re pleased with its trouble-free performance.I especially love this device because it saves me time that was once used (wasted) spent chopping up kitchen scraps, bringing out to a garden composter, regularly rotating the composter, etc. Now, we never have to leave the kitchen because this machine does everything that the old composting system did, only better!. It’s produces odor-free quality compost with no human labor required and only needs emptying maybe once in three or four months. It quickly digests and dehydrates everything - just open the lid and drop the scraps in, it does the rest.Yes, it costs a bit - but what quality appliance doesn’t? In my view, this is a life enhancer for both home owner and the environment. Consider as a perfect gift for newly weds or anyone setting up a new home. They, and their flower beds, will appreciate it for years to come.
1.0 out of 5 stars Didn't Live Up to Expectations
I had such high expectations for this composter. Alas.1. When we removed it from the shipping carton, there were what appeared to be mildew or mold stains on the corners of the composter's white case. The carton did not show any signs of water damage. So I was concerned about where this machine had been. The interior did not appear used, but the stains on the exterior case were concerning.2. As we started to fill the composter with orange peels, leftover salad greens, cold coffee grounds, etc. it started to have an odor. As it got fuller, the odor got stronger - sort of like rotting fish.3. As the compost approached the "Full" line, my husband hauled it outside so I could empty it. I was DELIGHTED with the texture of the compost!!4. But the smell was overpowering.5. As I dug farther to the bottom, I found little bits and pieces of gray rubber - about quarter size. I never found any source for those pieces of rubber, BUT neither my husband nor I put anything made of rubber in the machine!6. I am kicking this machine to the curb!!!
5.0 out of 5 stars worth the price for me
I don't write many reviews- BUT I've been really pleased with this. I had a hard time justifying the expense when ordering. I had a special small trash can in the kitchen for organic waste which accumulates until I take it outside and dump in a compost bin- and wait. Eggshells -even crushed, flower stalks , stale bread were still recognizable months after. Plus I then had to wash out the kitchen collection bin- hard to do outside in the winter when hoses were disconnected. We had some serious snowstorms this winter where I hated making the compost run. This has been great- it takes a larger number of waste types then I put in the outside compost and it is much quicker- even whole loaves of hard moldy bread, plant stalks, egg shells and so much more are turned into what appears to fertile compost in a day (I've already generated enough to put on beds in preparation for Spring planting. It is quiet, convenient, quick acting and odorless- very easy to use. I'm very happy and consider it worth the price .

I’m editing my review here. Originally I was negative on the team’s lack of communication. It turns out I was wrong and that their reply emails were caught in a spam filter. Your best bet is to communicate with them through WhatsApp. That said, they were accommodating to helping me get a replacement part that will fix my issue. Keeping one star off here as I’m going to have to pay for the majority of the part, as I’m out of 1hr warranty. If you buy direct from their website, you can get it to your warranty apparently. I wish I had done that.

Turning Kitchen Scraps into Magic: The GEME Electric Composter Experience!
The media could not be loaded. I must say, I'm over the moon with my GEME electric composter, and let me tell you why.First off, that 19L capacity is a game-changer. I mean, it's practically like having a bottomless pit for kitchen waste. Cost-effective? You bet! I ordered this bad boy primarily because of that supersized capacity. Now, when it comes to operating this marvel, it's a piece of cake. No buttons, no complicated setups. Just add some water into GEME-Kobold, then toss in your kitchen scraps anytime, and boom! It's like magic – the GEME kitchen compost bin is fully automatic. I've never felt so lazy and eco-conscious at the same time. What sets the GEME Kitchen electric composter apart is its claim to be the world's first food waste composter with biotechnology. And let me tell you, it's the real deal. This thing doesn't just dry out your waste, it actually turns it into genuine organic compost. The composting effect? Impressive, to say the least. But wait, the real kicker here is the odor (or rather, the lack of it). You can throw all the food waste you want into the composter machine, and you won't catch a whiff of any unpleasant smells. It's like a miracle – your kitchen stays fresh and stink-free.Now, let's talk about the filter. I've dabbled with other electric composters before, and they always had me shelling out for replacement filters left and right. It's a money pit and a headache. But not with the GEME electric composter. Its filter is like the superhero of filters – it's permanent, my friend! No need to keep buying new ones. That's some seriously smart design that saves you big bucks.Stay tuned for more updates as I get to know this beast better. Who knew composting could be this easy, odorless, and cost-effective? GEME electric kitchen compost bin, you've got my kitchen waste under control!

expensive, yet not real composting
I was first attracted by the description on Bolo, even though the review wasn't super good. Bought this thing and used for 2 weeks, here is my real-life experience with this expensive tool:1) It claimed you can harvest compost after 6-8 hours, but this is not true. After 14 days of continuous running the device, there are still fruit peals (banana peals, soft enough to break down and decompose, yet still there) and no sign of real compost. I am wondering if it is because the content is too dry for a proper ongoing composting, as any good compost need water. However the instruction didn't say that you should add water, only add water when you first put in the starter. while it is quite hot inside the bin while it is working, and all the content seemed quite dry.2) Everything you put in have to be cut in small pieces, 4 square centimeters, according to the chart the manufacturer sticked on the back of the lid of the bin (picture attached), I am wondering why the manufacturer didn't put this picture on their product's description section on Bolo. Anyone who really wants to try this device should read this chart first!!!3) After 10 days running or so, it started to give off odor. Not obvious, but strong enough that you can smell it once you enter the room, it smelled sour, like yogurt.4) It's a costly investment, which doesn't live up to its claim of producing good compost. The machine itself costs more than a thousand dollars, plus it uses up to 2 KW of electricity per day, and annual refill of kobold (the microorganism to keep the composting running) costs $200.5) Nature composting in warm temperature (25-40 degrees Celsius) takes about at least 3 months to complete, so manage your expectation: anything too good to be true should raise a big question mark. I just trusted that this machine has some magic to turn food waste to compost in a snap by their claim, however I was wrong.Due to the above reasons, I have to return the machine after 2 weeks' use. I am sorry but I think this is the right action to teach those manufacturers who do not want to share all the important information to prospective buyers.
