5.0 out of 5 stars In depth review. Keeps temp and Humidity accurate, a temp controlled unit at an amazing price.
(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } Briefly, I believe this to be one of the best temp controlled humidors available for the price. Highly recommend. Read on for a more in depth review.* Size and Capacity: A 100-count humidor is ideal for storing a moderate collection of cigars. If you plan to store more cigars in the future, you might consider a larger humidor. For me this one is a perfect size. Currently storing ~45 cigars comfortably, with plenty of room left. The unit itself has a larger depth than I suspected. It fits very nice next to my nightstand. But could prove obtrusive in a living room for example, measure accordingly.* Temperature Control: Electric humidors with temperature control allow you to maintain a consistent temperature, this is crucial for those in environments with temperature swings. So far this unit keeps a steady temp heating and cooling at the set temp. Controls are located on the front of the unit. Press the pressure activated button to unlock the unit then press again to change temp. The ideal temperature range for cigars is typically between 64°F and 72°F. I keep this unit at 69 degrees. This unit is holding steady and accurately at 0.5 degrees above the set temp, according to my readings.* Humidity Control: This unit came with plastic reservoir to hold distilled water. I found however that I could not control the humidity with that setup, overshot big time. Humidity consistently went too high. Instead I tried a single Bovida pack at 69% and 60 gram size. Humidity would stay at 62%. So I tried a single 72% humidity pack and humidity is staying at 62%. I will note, Bovida would strongly suggest the 320 gram pack for this setup. In trying to be cheap I cost myself more money here. In using single 60 grams packs and never got the correct humidity. Finally, I upgraded to the 320 gram pack and that kept humidity right where I wanted it at 66%. Of note I live in a dry climate.* Construction Material: unit has a tight seal. All buttons work as expected. It is large and arguably difficult to find a place to keep this unit in a aesthetically pleasing location. Thus why in my bedroom. Instructions request you keep a 3 inch space in the back of the unit to not block airflow. The wood inside for the shelving is Spanish cedar and the shelves slide in and out easily. Please note, in order to slide shelves in and out the door must be opened a complete 180 degrees and opens to the right. If you place the unit next to something that doesn't allow you to fully open the door flush (or 180 degrees) you will not be able to slide the shelves. There is a light inside that is pressure activated via a switch on the top front of the unit next to the temp controls. Light is nice to check on my humidity levels which I have been obsessing over. The unit is very quiet and despite being next to my head when sleeping, it is never noticed. I will say the blue light from the temp reading is very bright and no way to dim. I am considering black tape over this.* Analog Hygrometer: The built in hygrometer appears accurate enough. Two digital hydrometers matching at 66% and built in analog at 68%.* Final thoughts: this is a very easy to use unit. Lots of positives. Price is great, seems well made. Controls temp very well. A future worry I have is what if this unit fails. I will lose temp control but the seal is strong and the humidity will stay accurate per my testing by leaving the unit unplugged for 72 hours. My only frustration is the brightness of the temp light. Since I keep this in my bedroom, I do like a very dark room and this disrupts that. Black tape helps. Not even a big deal in a different location. Also do yourself a favor and get the 320 g Boveda pack instead of being cheap like me with the 60 gram packs. This pack humidifies best in top rack not buried under the bottom shelf, trial and error done for you.
5.0 out of 5 stars Good entry level sealed humidpr
This is a really good entry-level humidor for the cigar enthusiast. It has many pluses, a few limitations, and some really good features. One of the good features is that it is a fully contained, and lightweight humidor. Don’t expect this to be heavy like a refrigerator, because it does not have a compressor. It runs quiet and seals very well. It comes with a 6 foot cord for plug-in, which means it is Easily placed within the area that you want. The controls are very straightforward and easy to use. The door sealed very well and held humidity very well. One thing I did notice, is that it came with a reservoir in the back of the unit, that was not explained in the directions or in the description. I presume this is for you to put distilled water in to maintain a humidification level. It is in the back and will require you to remove, one of the shelves in order to remove it, fill it and replace it. It also comes with a reservoir to help you initially humidify the unit when you first get it. This works extremely well, I was able to get the humidity up to a great percentage, and Allow the wood shelves to properly acclimate to the humidity. One thing you need to make sure of, is that you can allow the door to swing all the way open, that is the only way to remove or pull out a shelf or the box in the bottom. It must be able to swing completely out or the shelves will catch on the door frame. I was able to get about 70 cigars in this with ease. However, to put full boxes in unit, they cannot be longer than the shelf is wide. Therefore, a box of Churchhill may have some difficulty fitting in this unit. They would be ideal for Robusto And Toro cigars. And checking the temperature gauge, wine appears to be a little light on temperature. I had it set to 70° and it only reached 67°. Easily adjustable with the range of the controls. The cooling of the unit is not quite as quiet as the heating is but that is no big deal. You just adjust the temperature to be a little bit more or less than your desired temperature and check it with a thermometer inside the unit. The light is a soft, blue hue, and really only serves the top shelf of the unit. Once you get, your unit filled, the light really doesn’t do much good. Again, the unit isn’t all that big so displaying your cigars is easily done as you open the door. The door is quality craftsmanship however, the glass does have a reflective gloss to it so you can’t really see inside the unit to display your cigars. I presume this is to help block out unnecessary light to degrade the cigars.Overall, I am very happy with this unit. I would recommend it for any cigar enthusiast who is just getting started and would like a nice climate controlled unit to keep their cigars stored. I would recommend that you invest in a good thermometer and hydrometer reading device to make sure that your cigars are kept at your optimal desired Temperature and humidity. For the price, this is an excellent entry level humidor.
Incompatible power supply
(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } I bought this because the reviews appeared great, however, it is not mentioned anywhere that the appliance requires a 110v supply. In the UK, the supply is 240v/60hz. Fortunately, I read the instructions and checked the power information at the back of the humidor before plugging it in and accidentally blowing it up.I haven't been able to use it yet as I now need to get a power adapter that supports the odd plug that the humidor comes with... which will likely cost me £30-£50. Surely, this should be mentioned somewhere in the description.
Bad humidity and smell
Very bad product don’t buy. It was delayed for weeks then the product doesn’t maintain humility it’s either too high or too low and it produces weird smells which ruins the cigars. The humidity temperature settings is not precise. Don’t waste your money
Humidor
Bisher mein einziger Kritikpunkt.
