Small movies like this don't get enough notice and recognition. This movie is both funny and deeply poignant. I've watched it 4 times. Each additional time...with friends I recommended it to. And they all loved it. With each viewing I get more out of it...on a subtextual level. On the surface it's just a comedy with a dark edge. But when you go deeper (and trust me it is quite deep) it's about disconnection, modern society, and the need to need to truly connect with others despite our differences. Oh, and of course, why we have a need for vengeance (or in the context of this film...justice). It's brilliantly scripted, edited, and directed. Not in a showy directorial way, but in an understated manner that lets the story shine unimpaired. Bravo B.J. Novac. Bravo. I hope you make more films of this ilk. I'm a fan!

The movie itself is a slower paced character drama where a journalist from New York gets dragged into attending a funeral. He uses this opportunity to capitalize for a potential story. Rest assured, the movie's title is not misleading, however for those of you expecting an action-packed title will leave disappointed. The movie is very well-crafted and was a treat to watch. There's a lot of twists and turns that did catch me off guard. If this sounds at all interesting to you, I say give it a watch in any of its available forms.

Vengeance perfectly covers the smarmy elitist misconceptions of small towns and so called "simple folks" and their plights, while at the same time being overshadowed by something much more sinister and destructive that tears apart American society. The ending of the film is somewhat upsetting and shocking upon the first viewing of the film, but if you pay attention during a second viewing it makes much more sense.I absolutely love that films like this are still being made as I feel due to the budget restraints or passion, they tell much better and unfiltered stories than say what is being promoted and cranked out by mainstream Hollywood and big corporations by Disney, all while looking and feeling wholly professional.
