Description:

Melbourne federal agent Aaron Falk (Eric Bana) went back to his drought-stricken rural hometown for the first time in decades on the news that a boyhood friend had killed his family, and them himself. Asked to stay around and investigate the shocking incident, he'd face opposition from the locals-including some who thought he knew more than he told about another friend's death back in the day. 5.0 out of 5 stars Good movie

J.T. · August 29, 2024

This movie had some twists in the plot and was a good watch. I don't think I'll watch the sequel as they are never as good as the original, but this was a good buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Well Done!

J. · September 8, 2024

This was an unexpected well-done overall film...I will watch the second film in the series based on novels...enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Eric Bana. . . Need I Say More

S.D. · August 25, 2024

Eric Bana is wonderful as usual. Easy on the eyes. Gives his all in every film.

3.0 out of 5 stars I am a huge fan of Eric the banana but....

F.H. · August 4, 2024

This movie came in at 3.5 stars for me--maybe a low 4. I waited forever for it to be available to rent after playing solely on another streaming platform. I deliberately did not read the book when I learned they were making it into a movie, but now I wish I had. I may still since I don't even remember how it ended--it was that lackluster of a movie. Still entertaining, and I was thoroughly invested in watching the whole thing, but I was expecting so much more after hearing about the book, and hearing about how many weeks it was on the bestseller list. I would still like to see The Dry 2 because of Eric Bandana, and I'm hoping it will be just as good or hopefully, even better. If you have a chance to watch it, don't go by me, do watch it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Followed the book

C.M. · July 21, 2024

Enjoyable. Followed the book. And was only $3.99 to rent.

4.0 out of 5 stars Slow Moving, Evocative Mystery

B.R.C. · May 23, 2021

This film does a good job of balancing the events that took place in the past and the events that take place in the future. You get a sense of the frustration in Eric Bana's character as he is called back to his old hometown to investigate murders that everyone, including he, believes solved. The barren, desolate scenery is as much a character as the people in the small town who are all keeping secrets, all telling lies, and all suspicious of each other. The ending in which the older mystery of what happened to Ellie Deacon is wrapped up too neatly. It would have been enough for me to learn that, contrary to what Aaron suspected all movie long, it wasn't his friend Luke that killed her. Knowing that the town had one more secret, one more layer, one more tragic story to pull into the light, would have made a fitting ending. But the last five minutes can't totally mute the effect of the stirring mystery that brought us there, and I thoroughly recommend The Dry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Twist and turns movie

T. · July 2, 2024

It was very suspenseful. You didn't know what was going to happen next. I would watch this movie again.

2.0 out of 5 stars Like playing a long, boring game of Clue with ppl you dislike

A.V.W. · June 13, 2021

Gonna say the super high ratings for the movie (and probably the book) are bought, cause this movie was boring. It started off with promise, hence the 2 stars instead of 1. But eventually it became like playing a really long game of Clue with a bunch of dullards you don’t really like. I think they desperately wanted this to be a slow burn murder-mystery like Twin Peaks and make the dead girl a Laura Palmer and Eric Bana an Agent Cooper but they fail. The Characters feel shallow and underdeveloped and the “plot” just meanders herky-jerky this way and that for most of the film. Everything gets wrapped up with a neat little bow at the end which felt forced and trite. I hear the book suffered from a lot of these same types of issues so maybe the movie suffered cause they didn’t have anything great to work with from the get go.Keep your $6.99 and wait until this movie is free if you really want to watch it. Otherwise skip.

Exceptional who-dun-it

BEWARE

G. · October 22, 2023

I've just tried to watch this DVD and found that it will not load on my player as it is set to a different zone - North America. It's not much use to a UK resident and sadly I've left it too late to get a refund. I feel Bolo and or the seller should have made this clear at the ordering phase so that people like me do not waste over £20 on an unplayable DVD.

Perfect

A gripping, character-driven, and terrific mystery

A satisfying and strong Austrailian noir with a excellent lead performance by Eric Bana. It's has a tough, compelling, absorbing atmosphere with characters to boot and keep you on the edge of your seat until the end.

Great Aussie Crime Fiction

A.C. · May 14, 2021

"The Dry" has been adapted from the book by a very talented new Aussie author, Jane Harper. The story came to my notice on searching Eric Bana on IMDB. I had 2 thoughts: 1) Gotta see this film, but, 2) Gotta read the book first. The book was a tremendous read, and the film a superb adaptation. Congratulations to all - 1) Jane Harper for a superb piece of crime fiction, and 3) All involved in the film production, especially the cast, particularly Eric Bana, who anchored the film beautifully. Hopefully there will be more adaptations of Jane's books, particularly "Force of Nature" with Eric back as Aaron Falk. Cheers, Andy C.
