5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect hiking shoe! Not so much for the Lone peak 8’s though.
I never knew how much I needed a wide toe box in my shoes until I started wearing the Altra Lone Peaks. Now, I can’t find true comfort in any other shoe! I’ve tried wide shoes in the past. In fact, my hiking boots are wide. But the problem with wide shoes is that the whole shoe is wider than regular shoes, not just the toe box. But my foot is only wide around the ball of my foot. My mid-foot and heel areas are not wide. So wide shoes always feel big on me. I never realized how much regular shoes squeeze the ball of my foot, and become uncomfortable after a while. Now I notice it in every shoe. These shoes are not like typical wide shoes, as these are only wide in the toe box. I guess, according to shoe manufacturers, I’m abnormal, since no one else makes shoes with such a wide toe box. Even other styles of Altra do not compare to the Lone Peaks, which have Altra’s widest toe box. The Lone Peaks are the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever put on my feet, not only for the ball area of my foot, but I also love having plenty of room for my toes to spread out while hiking. I can actually feel my toes working to grip the uneven trail surface, which I wasn’t sure at first that I liked, because I actually felt like my foot muscles were getting a work-out . . . A new sensation for me. But after hiking in Lone Peaks for several years now, I absolutely love it! I feel like my feet are stronger! Who knew?! Anyway, I do have to mention that I have two pairs of the Lone Peak 6’s, and one pair of the Lone Peak 7’s. I tried on a pair of the Lone Peak 8’s, and was a little disappointed, because the sole of the shoe was not as squishy and comfortable as the 6’s and 7’s. Turns out, they added a rock plate into the soles of the 8’s, which makes them not as comfortable as the 6’s and 7’s. I don’t know why manufacturers always feel like they have to fix what isn’t broken, and in the process, they mess up a good thing. I will still probably end up buying a pair of the 8’s though, just because I love the wide toe box that much.

I’ve been running in the Altra Lone Peak 7 trail shoes and they’ve quickly become my favorite for both short and long runs. The wide toe box is a game changer-my toes finally have room to splay naturally, which keeps my feet comfortable even after hours on the trail. The cushioning is just right: not overly plush, but supportive enough to handle rocky paths and long distances without making my feet feel tired.Traction is solid on dry and moderately technical terrain, and the shoe feels stable and secure thanks to the snug lacing system. I also love the zero-drop design, which gives a more natural feel underfoot, though it did take a little getting used to. If you’re looking for a lightweight, breathable, and durable trail runner that’s especially good for wide feet and everyday trail use, the Lone Peak 7 is a fantastic choice.

For starters, I want to say I absolutely loved my ALTRA lone peak 6s. I have fairly flat and wide feet due to running around barefoot as a kid (it was the 90s and outside was the place to be) and the arch support and wide toe box were perfect. Before buying them, I was wearing Hoka Cliftons which resulted in a very painful tailor's bunion. So I switched to the 6 and have never had any issues with my feet. Fast forward 2 years after hiking miles and miles through the TN mountains and loving them so much that I wore them everyday, I decided it was time for another pair. Saying that, they held up beautifully, I just wore the padding inside down. When I looked up the 6s again, I found they had went up majorly in price or were out of stock since they were the older "model". I tried to venture out to other brands, and every time I tried a pair, I was disappointed---none of them were as comfortable. It was also incredibly hard to part ways with these shoes (dramatic, I know). I decided to stop being stubborn and order the newer model, these, the 7s. I went back and forth for awhile because of the reviews and I couldn't decide on a color. I wasn't a fan of any of the colors but I ultimately went with the tan and light blue ones, they are pretty. Upon receiving the shoes and trying them on, I was ecstatic. They felt as comfortable as the 6s that I cherished. Those of you who are hikers know how important finding a pair of supportive shoes is and these are it! I still wear my 6s for nostalgic purposes and because the navy goes better with some clothes. Needless to say, I love the shoes. My only issue would be the colors, I would have liked a solid color or different shades of the same color on the shoe. However, this isn't a big deal and definitely not worth knocking off any stars since they will eventually because covered in dirt. 10/10 would recommend.

I’ve had these Altra Trail running shoes for almost a year. In the Spring I used them hiking in Arizona and in the fall we hiked the Adirondacks, Shenandoah and The Smokies. The traction is great, they’re light, and best of all the toe is wide so I don’t have the blisters on my little toe! I sprayed the shoes with Camp Dry so they were water resistant. These are meant for trail running but they are great for light hiking when you don’t want to drag out the big heavy boots. I think they have held up well for the amount of miles on them, and I love the colors they offer. My only negative: I do think they were pricey.
Perfect for bunion feet!
I found these shoes at another store and was happy to find them on Bolo. The wider toe box helps with bunion issues and they are comfortable and durable. The grippy soles are great for weather that needs a bit more traction. Great shoes!
