Open window cover and apply 2-3 drops of liquid. Close cover and point toward a bright light source. You should see a crisp line across the scale indicating product sugar content. This one is graded to 30 and you need the full scale for syrup which needs to read between 66-68%.

Easy to use seems to be very accurate the only problem is if your eyesight isn't 2020 there's no real good adjustment to see clearly but it's big enough that you can make it out

This is the second refractometer I have bought for this brand. AGAIN it reads .030 higher than two hydrometers! See pictures. Returning!
