The Senator: A Blake Jordan Thriller (The Blake Jordan Series)

Description:

The senator is kidnapped. Can Blake Jordan save him?

After his wife is murdered in Chicago, by-the-book agent Blake Jordan focuses on the one thing he’s always been good at: his job. But Blake is so consumed by grief, he doesn’t notice that someone is watching him from the shadows.

When Senator Keller asks Blake to handle security the night he’s set to receive his party’s nomination for president, he accepts the assignment. But he didn’t expect the senator to disappear under his watch.

If he wants to get him back, Blake must break every rule he’s lived by. But what the kidnappers are planning to do next is shocking… and it’s much darker and far more personal than he could imagine.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very intriguing and smashing read!

B.W. · April 7, 2020

This is my first time reading a Blake Jordan thriller. A very intriguing and well written book. It has everything I could want in the thriller genre. The plot is well organized, perfectly laid out step by step and brilliantly brought to the end. It was difficult to distinguish the bad guys from the good guys. The CIA were as underhanded and back stabbing as usual, but the FBI came in a close second. I will be buying more Blake Jordan books.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Powerful Series Debut!

M.P. · September 17, 2018

I will be the first to admit, I love a good political thriller, particularly one that gains momentum in the early chapters and never stops racing until the end. Finding Ken Fite’s book almost by accident, I vowed that I would give the series debut a try to see if it lived up to all the hype. Boy, did it ever, and then some, which is how I ended up steamrolling through it in a single day. Illinois Senator James Keller prepares to accept the nomination of the Republican Party for President of the United States. In his hometown of Chicago, he makes his way to the United Center for the convention, only to be kidnapped inside his suite. Blake Jordan is the Special Agent in Charge with the Department of Domestic Counterintelligence (DDC), tasked with protecting Senator Keller. When news leaks that the senator is not late for his speech because of traffic, Jordan pushes things into high gear, vowing to find Keller before it’s too late. Meanwhile, Keller’s captor has a plan, which is altered slightly when a nosy journalist learns more than he ought to in short order. As Keller is paraded before the world and an execution date is set, Jordan must dodge accusations and bullets to save Keller, who is not only his charge, but a personal friend. With the hours ticking by, Jordan will have to find a way, as he pieces together the larger plot and seeks a motive. Fite does a sensational job in this series debut, which will have fans of political thrillers gasping for breath as they try to keep up.Ken Fite is surely an author to watch, as he is able to mix the art of the thriller novel with the nuances of American politics. There is surely more to come, as the series has four novels to date, all of which look equally enthralling. Introducing the world to Blake Jordan and the DDC lays the groundwork for a stellar protagonist. While there is little backstory on offer—save that he was a SEAL and recently lost his wife—Blake Jordan is a man with a mission and whose choices are usually based on the moment. Jordan is full of surprises and stays one step ahead of those around him, even when flirting with insubordination. He has a job and that appears to be all that he wants to do. Working alongside a partner whose story remains overshadowed by his own, Jordan has much room to grow in the coming novels. The handful of other characters will surely play roles in the upcoming novels and served the debut well, helping to solidify Jordan’s place in the narrative. We shall see what other political and personal scenarios arise, but Fite is sure to have some strong ideas and equally effective characters to help push the story along. While the story is not entirely unique—politician of importance is kidnapped and must be saved—it is the pace of the story that makes it stand alone. The short chapters leave little time to think on what is taking place, thrusting the reader forward and forcing them to ‘read late into the night’ as the dust jacket blurb hopes will happen. Either that, or a day-long binge as I undertook to finish, just so I that I could say I learned how things wrapped up. I will definitely be reaching for Book 2 now, as I cannot get enough of Fite, Blake Jordan, or the content.Kudos, Mr. Fite, for a great opening salvo. I cannot wait to see what else you have in store for your readers!

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn’t Put this Book Down - Political Suspense with Twists and Turns

K.R.a.S.i.S.C. · September 2, 2023

As a fan of TL Ryan, this series was recommended. From page one to the end, it was such a compelling read! A US Senator, soon to be Presidential Candidate is kidnapped on Blake Jordan’s watch. Jordan has to bend the rules, risking all to try to find and rescue the senator. Great plot, characters, a dash of alphabet agency rivalry, and a fabulous partner. On to book 2..

3.0 out of 5 stars Really, just okay.

R.C.r. · June 14, 2018

OK, so here’s my view from 30,000 feet. And by that I’m referring to not only book 1, which I just finished, but also books 2-4, which, I admit, I read only the fly leafs. But, based on those, I do not plan to read any more of this writer. To begin with, it appears that I am one of the very few reviewers that failed to drink the “kool aide” after reading book one. Because otherwise, how else to explain why books 1-4 got so many 5 star reviews?I do not retell story lines in my reviews. What I do is analyze plot, character development, rising and falling action, anti climax, and resolution. I feel that honest comment on those attributes better serves summarizing the read.Frankly, the plot was okay. I analyze plot by how well I can recall where I left off with the story line when I return to it after a period of time. Good plot is one that means I did not have to re read passages in order to continue on with the read. I was able to do that with this book. There was very little depth to the character development of the antagonist. We knew the identity, but really little else motivating why the attack on the victim. I thought the hostile relationship between the antagonist and lead protagonist needed to be better explained. And, why that victim, or, why that level of hostility toward that victim? Because of the special relationship between the protagonist and the victim?? Please….Character development of the lead protagonist was better, but not so much with the protagonist’s side kick, or colleagues.Rising action was okay. There was continuum throughout as to that. Falling action collided with anti climax of which the latter was a dud in my view. Resolution was maudlin. Likely a set up for future stories. It’s stated that book one, although part of a series, is a stand alone read. That comment was the saving grace for me.I have read books only to come to the “end” whereupon “to be continued” is thrown out (tongue in cheek no doubt). Writers that do that get a “special rating” for that tactic.Bottom line, this book was just okay, a 3 rating. But as said, I’m done with this series, because I suspect there is more of the same going forward, i.e., same story just different characters.

Interesting.

For a first book this one was pretty good. The plot line was credible although I'm not sure if the Senator could have overruled the Secret Service regarding his security. The plot line was a bit ragged and thin but it did make me sweat in places with the tension. To me that is the sign of a book written with passion. I had the feeling that this book was going to be the first of a series as there were quite a few loose ends at the finish of the book and when I got to the end I found that a second book was on the way. The loose ends - what did the young man deliver to the house? Who is the mole - there obviously is one. However, I enjoyed the read; I thought the characterisation was good, and I'm sure further books will get better and better with the writers style and plot structure getting more solid. I wish you well with your second book and look forward to reading it.
