Description:
Yuta, a young master at the Tsukiji Fish Market, accidentally drops his meal of mixed seafood into the Sumida River. Some time afterwards a gigantic mutated squid monster arises from the depths and begins to wreak havoc upon an awe\-stricken Tokyo. Attempts by the Japan Self\-Defense Forces to stop the creature prove futile. As it seems things couldn’t get any worse an enormous mutant octopus monster emerges from the deep and heads into a clash of the titans with the gargantuan squid. As a last ditch effort, the government forms the “Seafood Monster Attack Team (SMAT)” and an all\-new plan of attack is immediately put into action. But just as the tide appears to be turning in humanity’s favor, a colossal crab monster appears, joining in the Monster Seafood Wars and plunging the world into culinary chaos.
Review:
5.0 out of 5 stars This movie was everything I had hoped it could be.
This movie won't be for everyone, but it's definitely for me. I absolutely love the whole feel of this movie. If you're looking for a fun time that simultaneously takes itself seriously and is 1000% over the top, this may be it.
5.0 out of 5 stars Silly...
Really silly and funny movie.
4.0 out of 5 stars A kids style Kaiju movie
I kinda enjoyed the movie. More like a long TV show. The acting was okay, some good some bad. The 3 monsters squid, octopus, and crab were what you find in an Ultraman tv show. A little silly, most will find it stupid. I will admit, I did fast forward through some of it.
3.0 out of 5 stars Not in English
The movie was bad, really bad, but I knew this in the beginning as I am fan of this Genre. But the description stated that the language was English. That is wrong. It is in Japanese with English Subtitles. (I hate subtitles) (Spoiler Alert) The description is also wrong. It states that a "young master" from a seafood market drops his meal in the river. The young man was transporting the creatures as an offering at a local temple when they escaped, and co-incidentally, he was the inventor of a rapid growth drug that was stolen and misused. Bad Monsters Bad effects, but that what this movie is all about. 3 stars because of the subtitle thing.
3.0 out of 5 stars Goofy on so many levels!
If you can endure slogging through this odd Japanese movie, which should have been maybe 45 minutes long instead of 90 something, it has some of the funniest Kaiju monsters and fighting I've seen in a while. Funny, funny...especially the ending fight scene.
5.0 out of 5 stars Read the Title
When one goes into a film with this title and such obviously-fake monster suits, we should expect nothing but goofy. This is Godzilla in a monster suit... but with an oddball satirical sense of humor that keeps the entire film entertaining. The actors manage to maintain such stoic and serious faces while uttering some humorous cornball lines. The plot twist of switching from monster battles to long expositions of how wonderful monster meat tastes and the ways it can be prepared-- to individual 'mocumentary' interviewes-- and then back to trying to kill those monsters, was inspired. No one should go in to this film expecting anything serious. I can't imagine someone down-rating this for being exactly what it's presented to be (why would such people watch this in the first place?). The script is enjoyable, the directing spot-on, and the actors to be credited for playing their absurd parts so well. This is a Saturday-afternoon-with-friends fun fest (if you have the right kind of friends). I give it 5 stars not because it's a great movie-- but for achieving exactly what it set out to achieve: rubber suit Kaiju wrecking the city (once again)... accompanied by some unusually funny satire that makes it more enjoyable than typical Japanese giant monster movies.
