Reviews:
5.0 out of 5 stars A diabolical, brutal plot; they devise a wicked scheme.
"Godzilla vs. Kong" is a March 24, 2021 American monster film, produced by Legendary Pictures and directed by Adam Wingard, based on the screenplay cowritten by Eric Pearson and Max Borenstein from a story cowritten by Terry Rossio, Michael Dougherty, and Zach Shields, with visual effects by John "DJ" DesJardin; a sequel to Kong: Skull Island (2017) and Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019), and the fourth film in the MonsterVerse franchise; occasioning the April 6, 2021 contemporaneous publication of the 'Official Movie Novelization', "Godzilla vs. Kong", written by Gregory Keyes.Filming locations include Hawaii, Aloha Tower Marketplace, the waterfront shopping center in Honolulu, Kualoa Ranch, USS Missouri; the exterior of the Apex Cybernetics headquarters in Pensacola was filmed in the Wastewater Treatment Plant located on the southeastern side of Oahu in Sand Island. Australia, Village Roadshow Studios and Wickham Terrace Car Park, Brisbane, Chinatown, Fortitude Valley, Miami State High School, Gold Coast, the Bundamba Advanced Water Treatment Plant in Ipswich; and Hong Kong.Starring Alexander Skarsgård as Dr. Nathan Lind, Monarch geologist and chief cartographer; Millie Bobby Brown as Madison Russell, daughter of Monarch scientists Mark and the late Emma Russell; Rebecca Hall as Dr. Ilene Andrews, Monarch anthropological linguist, and Jia's adoptive mother; Brian Tyree Henry as Bernie Hayes, Apex Cybernetics technician turned conspiracy theorist and whistleblower; Shun Oguri as Ren Serizawa, Monarch scientist and son of the late Ishirō Serizawa, and Apex's chief technology officer; Eiza González as Maia Simmons, top-tier Apex Cybernetics executive, and Walter Simmons' daughter; Julian Dennison as Josh Valentine, friend of Madison; Lance Reddick as Guillerman, director of Monarch; Kyle Chandler as Dr. Mark Russell, Madison's father, Monarch's deputy director of special projects, and an animal behavior and communication specialist; Demián Bichir as Walter Simmons, Maia's father, CEO, and founder of Apex Cybernetics, a tech organization invested in trying to solve the Earth's "Titan problem", secretly creating Mechagodzilla to exterminate them; Kaylee Hottle as Jia, deaf orphaned Iwi native, Ilene's adopted daughter. The 'MonsterVerse' is an American multimedia franchise, created in 2014 and owned by Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures, presenting an original and unique 'shared universe;' a complex crossover storytelling technique that involves mixing different fictional styles, worlds, and characters from multiple literary or film sources into a single story to create a new context; incorporating various exclusive canons across continuities into a singular storyworld within the same continuities' universe; having correlated characters, settings, and plot points. This franchise is in my opinion a brilliantly conceived literary device and framework, initiating an original cinematic universe, to introduce entirely new mythopoeia (mythmaking) narratives to both old and new creatures and characters that present reinvented richer and more complex myths in an overarching metanarrative to establish prototypical canon, chronology, and continuum, expanding beyond the realm of film into publishing, television, gaming, toys, apparel, parklands, and more. Thus, the MonsterVerse publishes original 'novelizations' in connection with each of its films. A novelization is greater than an original novel. Where an adaptation from novel to screen compresses the narrative, the reverse is true in novelization, which elaborates the narrative and introduces more details, backstory, creative elements, prequels, interquels, and sequels. This extends the universe beyond the cinematic to include original tie-in graphic novels "presented in comic-strip format and published as a book," which typically present new stories for existing characters already developed within the franchise but can create entirely new characters and complex mythologies, part of the "official" storyline continuity, considered canonical, and typically released in tandem with the film or soon thereafter as a promotion or resource.A 'graphic novel', analogous to a comic book, is a supplement to the film and novelization that presents an original coalescing story in the form of a side story, prequel, interquel, sequel, and analepsis flashback story arc to create an expanded universe by developing characters and continuity and providing historic contextual information about characters and events. Graphic novels are addictive; you will want to collect. For example, from the graphic novel "Godzilla: Dominion," written by Greg Keyes, illustrated by Drew Johnson, and published by Legendary Comics on April 6, 2021, a prequel to the 2021 film "Godzilla vs. Kong," we learn why Godzilla bears animosity towards Kong from a flashback panel scene, depicting Godzilla as remembering from his youth millions of years before the birth of our Kong. This tells of an ancient unnamed "rival," given as a Titanus Kong ancestor, responsible for driving Godzilla from his lair and claiming it for himself. We also learn that Godzilla has the extrasensory perception phenomena of clairvoyance and telepathy: an awareness of what is happening across the entire planet, knowing at all times the dangers everywhere on earth and the whereabouts of Kong and all other Titans, and the ability to communicate telepathically with all Titans to aid him in protecting planet Earth. In the original Japanese Godzilla series, Godzilla was a prehistoric dinosaur 'Godzillasaurus', a transitional form between a marine and terrestrial reptile, until a nuclear bomb test mutated him into Godzilla. In Legendary's Monsterverse, however, Godzilla is not a mutant, although he is an unnatural creature in that his physiology assimilates the flow of atomic and subatomic particles and radiation; likened to the original Godzilla prehistoric superspecies, an amphibious reptilian transitional lifeform between a marine and a terrestrial reptile from the Permian Period 298.9 million years ago; however, unalike here, our Godzilla is a descendant, a Titanus Gojira, born in the Early Pliocene period, 5.333 million years ago, still the last survivor of his species; an ancient 'radiovorous' dinosaur whose physiological atomic nuclear circulatory system and abilities are derived directly from his origin in the Hollow Earth, able to survive extinction events by hibernating at the bottom of the sea, sustaining himself for millions of years at a time by absorbing geothermal radiation from the Earth's core; awakened by giant MUTOs (Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organisms), prehistoric parasites that thrived at the same time as Godzilla's species whose survival depend on killing Godzilla's species and using their radioactive carcasses as hosts for germinating MUTO reproductive spores. While the term "MUTO" is used to label the two parasitic monsters in the 2014 Godzilla film, it is intended to flag all unidentified creatures. Once a creature is identified and classified, it is technically no longer a MUTO; it is a Titan, according to the 2019 "Godzilla: King of the Monsters" film. Godzilla's powers outside of Hollow Earth come from absorbing exposure to nuclear radiation and nuclear tests.Godzilla weighs 164,000 tons, at 393 feet tall, with a 582 foot long serrated tail; and is anatomically and physiologically equivalent to a bionuclear reactor with organs that store fissile uranium-235 of such power as used to fuel nuclear power plants, which serve to facilitate his nuclear abilities, such as his Atomic Breath, with an energy yield "of practically unlimited power," (reportedly, 3.15 x 1014 joules [10 to the 14th power]), more powerful than a nuclear weapon; and, in his most empowered state of Burning Godzilla, when his body temperature rises above 2,732 degrees Fahrenheit, melting metal and disintegrating concrete in his vicinity, he can utilize his Nuclear Pulse, an energy wave capable of 270 Million degrees Fahrenheit, to absolutely incinerate everything within a radius of 1,312 feet, leaving nothing but residue in its wake; replenishing his nuclear power by absorbing radiation from dead titans and from earth's atomic facilities and weapons.Unlike the MonsterVerse Godzilla, Kong is a natural creature; his physiology does not assimilate nuclear radiation or fission. Kong is the last surviving semi-human intelligent member of his species, nearly annihilated by the Skullcrawlers in a battle on Skull Island; a Titanus Kong descendant of the prehistoric great ape, the Apus Giganticus superspecies that evolved in the Hollow Earth (assigned the cryptozoological classification Apus Giganticus by Monarch, re Napton, Robert (2023), Legends of the Monsterverse: The Omnibus. Legendary Comics. p. 442), revered as gods and protectors by the ancient Iwi civilization. Kong weighs 90,630 tons, at 337 feet tall. His physical strength is equal to Godzilla's, and his agility is certainly greater, but he is no match for Godzilla's nearly immortal and invincible anatomy; his extraordinarily armored and regenerative body; and his nuclear abilities.Kong was born millions of years after Godzilla's conflict with Kong's ancestors. Thus, Godzilla's superior anatomical physiology and nuclear abilities make his hostility towards Kong beyond iniquitous, especially considering Kong's youth and innocence in all matters and his always benevolent disposition to do good – even for the sake of Godzilla.I cannot tell you more, for it would spoil your enjoyment of this spectacular movie. Godzilla vs. Kong is a stellar production; the scenes and settings defy skepticism. The story is intriguing, and the creatures are mesmerizing. So too are the live actors and their splendid characterizations. Belief is suspended and imagination prevails. We overlook destruction and casualties and see only the thrilling spectacle of awesome heart-throbbing battle sequences as we champion our beloved monsters, not to be disturbed by our 'popcorn ready' chime. The 'Blu-ray Disc Bonus Content' is a 'must watch' for explanations of contexts beyond the film, including: Commentary by Adam Wingard, 1 h 53 min; The Battles: Titan Tag Team: The God and the King, 7 min; The Battles: Round One: Battle at Sea, 4 min; The Battles: Round Two: One Will Fall, 5 min; The Rise of MechaGodzilla, 7 min; The King: The Evolution of Kong, Eighth Wonder of the World, 8 min; The King: Behold Kong's Temple, 5 min; The King: Kong Discovers Hollow Earth, 7 min; The King: Kong Leaves Home, 7 min; The God: The Phenomenon of Gōjira, King of the Monsters, 9 min; The God: Godzilla Attacks, 6 min.

Hope you're entertained by my short review. I'm not one of these poor souls who feels they have to wrote the entire plot of a movie in an Bolo review. I love these new Godzilla films & they are fun. But THIS one has way too much CGI going on. I used to work in movie production behind the scenes & on sets. I'm a movie enthusiast. My heart & compassion hate to see what they put poor Kong through! Drugging him up(imagine the migrane after) rolling him from his home and then he fallo for miles into the Center of the planet and survives! Oh right, this isn't real. It's a movie. And then you have the talented black actor who plays Bernie. He's a good. But good speaking voices & DICTION don't seem to matter to producer & directors these days! If I'm an actor in a major worldwide movie you can bet I'm going to speak well so you can understand my lines!!! Think about how Harry Potter's Hermoine Grainger spoke so quickly you couldn't understand her!!! Wasn't there a dialogue coach around to tug at the director's sleeve and say "They're speaking too fast!" And then this CGI overload! Holy pixels Batman!!! This movie would have been much better had it been grounded in more reality like JJ Abrams filmed The Force Awakens:2015. Some of the audience out here likes to see them not overkill the cgi stuff. It makes the plot seem more ridiculous & implausible folks! That's all...

A Great 3D Movie
I'm a big fan of 3D movies, Documentaries and anything 3D. I'm very disappointed that they are few and far between. It seems the only place still producing them is Japan and they are very expensive. There has been a lot of 3D movies I would have purchased if they were made available here in Australia. So being able to purchase Godzilla Vs Kong in 3D brought a big smile to my face.
