I installed this kit last week.I had never even looked under the hood of a 6.7 before.I would say I'm advanced shade tree mechanic level. Been turning wrenches for 40 years but never professionally.Instructions are adequate, but not great. Several Youtube Videos for this install, one of the best being from Thoroughbred Diesel. Look 'em up.Straightforward install, but time consuming. Start to finish was 6 hours for me.Toughest part of install, hands down, was removing the plastic upper intake. Some of the rear bolts are a challenge to reach, and then removing the intake from the truck itself is a major PIA. There isn't much room to work with, and the bolts you just loosened stay on the intake, but loose- they can't be pulled out and removed. Those same loose bolts hang down and catch on everything as you try and pull the intake forward and out of the engine compartment. It's kind of like playing Whack-A-Mole trying to find the next bolt that is catching on something and causing you grief. The new fuel return line that runs from S&S's filter block back to the original return fitting on the truck was way too long. I contacted S&S for guidance. I talked to a rep and texted him pictures. He agreed that hose was too long for my 2015 and that they would make a shorter, custom return hose for my truck. Supposedly my stock truck is different than the millions of other 6.7's out there; who knows. The originally supplied hose is being used now, but it's a convoluted, twisted mess trying to deal with it being too long. Hopefully the shorter hose will show up soon.Truck was started back up according to directions. I cycled the key eight or 9 times to purge the fuel system before actually starting it. There is a lot of air in the lines and new return filter that needs to be purged; you can hear the air getting pushed back into the fuel tank and bubbling when you do this.Big picture, it's a no-brainer to do this. For $400 and a day of your time you will potentially save yourself a massive amount of money in the future. One side note- I debated installing this kit or doing the full S&S DCR pump conversion. I needed the truck on the road ASAP after I purchased it, and wasn't going to take a chance with the stock fuel system. This was much quicker, labor wise, and 1/5 the cost of the DCR pump. I'll go back and do the full DCR conversion at some point, but for now this was the best big-picture solution for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cheap kits hose not rated for diesel

    A.W. · June 11, 2025

Have no real miles on it yet but the kit is well designed. Former ASE certified tech i still do all my own work. Kit is relatively simple to install just alot has to come apart to do it. If you not mechanically inclined take it somewhere as you're messing with alot of the top end here and a number of things can go wrong. I initially purchased the cheaper $100 no name kit on here but once it came in I realized the lines supllied were feom china and rated for hydraulic/brake fluid. While it may have been fine i didnt wanna take a change with the diesel especially the bio blend erroding the line. So i opted to spend the money for this kit and im glad i did. I changed both my fuel filters an ended up getting no fuel to the topside filter. After digging in I realized it was an error on my part. I didn't bottom out the lift pump filter and it was pulling air. If you change the lift pump filter on the rail lube the o ring with light oil or diesel fuel and tighten it till you hit the mechanical lock. If you have to force it hard something is wrong. Mine got tigh and I though I bottomed out and it gave me issues. That has nothing to do with the kit just a tip for anyone who may run into that changing the rail filter. Kit looks great, have no loss of power just be sure to check the FCDM for metal shavings in the screen. If you have them you pump is done and might as well upgrade since its all apart. Also for those of us who have the 11-14 powerstroke that has the ceramic bearings. You will literally be at the intake of the turbo when doing this. This is a good time to check the play on the wheel. A little sided to side play is normal as the oil pressure will take that play out but there should be no in out play when you push pull the wheel. Also look at the turbo housing. When the bearings go bad it will allow the turbo wheel to touch to housing and gouge it. That's the sound you hear when the bearing fail. THANKS S&S

So far so good. Install is pretty straight forward. Instructions provided in box are clear, but S&S could take the time to create more specifics for the different years. My truck is a 2017 6.7 power stroke and there is a small portion where the instructions lack, videos don’t cover it, so it just takes know how. No fuel pressure issues and no leaks after a few weeks and added peace of mind.

5.0 out of 5 stars Should come from factory with these (or a different HPFP)

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy the knock off ones! It's worth the money to buy S&S!

Works as it should. Approx. 3k miles and I didn't blow my truck up yet. Customer service was great. Directions are good but could use some tweaking for us non-mechanics. My filter has 3 ports and directions were not straightforward. Need to phone a S&S friend.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid Kit with One Concerning Design Flaw

    B. · June 25, 2025

Overall, the S&S Diesel Motorsport CP4 Disaster Kit is a great product and a smart investment for anyone wanting to protect their fuel system. The components feel high quality, and once installed, everything seems to function as advertised. That said, I do have concerns about the barbed fittings that screw into the solid aluminum block where the filter mounts. Each barb has an O-ring, but they seated all the way down by hand, leaving no room to properly torque them. Even with a tool, I couldn’t get them to move at all - it almost felt like the pre-cut grooves for the O-rings were too deep. This has me worried that they could eventually leak under pressure or vibration over time.Aside from that issue, installation wasn’t too difficult if you have the specialized tools on hand. I definitely recommend watching a few YouTube videos beforehand—those walkthroughs helped a ton and made the process smoother. In the end, it’s a well-thought-out kit with one questionable design choice. Still, I’d recommend it, especially considering the peace of mind it offers compared to the cost of a full CP4 failure.
