I retired a 50 year old 10' bamboo rod (very slow, deep load, & super forgiving). So I was very nervous about starting over with something SO different. After setting it up with a 5wt Reddington Rise, 20lbs backing, & RIO Trout weight forward line & spending a little time practicing my cast I was shocked at the speed, accuracy, distance I was able to achieve with little to no effort. We spent a week in Colorado on the upper Rio Grande fishing every day & the TFO Blue Ribbon did not disappoint, I was able to consistently cast across the river to hit small eddys & riffles that in the past I had to cross the stream or deep wade to fish & I wasn't throwing heavy flys. I was regularly using a #12 parachute Adam's & a copper john as a dropper & switching to hopper patterns in the late afternoon. All in all this is probably one of the best purchases I've made & its got me very excited about fly fishing again. Don't tell the wife but I'm thinking about getting the 8wt & starting to fly fish for largemouth closer to home!

Everything these guys make is awesome. This is my fifth TFO rod. Are usually fish a BVK. I bought this because it’s a little softer and a little more sensitive. 10ft 5weight. The rod case that it comes with is high quality. This casts like a dream. It is very easy to load. Perfect for roll casting. It really minimizes all the false casting that one would need to do. I fish the mountain west for trout and have for 30 years

I own three TFO Blue Ribbons, a 9-0 5-weight, a 9-0 6-weight and an 8-0 3-weight. These rods are excellent tools for the average trout fisherman. They will handle floating, sink tip and sinking lines with ease and have very forgiving actions for beginning and intermediate fly fishermen. They work well with dry flies, dry-dropper rigs, nymphs and streamers from 0 out to 60 feet (and most of us would never get a hook set on a fish at more than 60 feet). They are at home on gentle spring creeks requiring delicate presentations, large brawling rivers and lakes. They are just as fishable for most of us as any of the so-called premium rods, and you can buy three of these for less than one of those.
