5.0 out of 5 stars This is perfect
I've been looking for something that can capture a wifi signal and allow me to hardwire into it for my wfh desktop and this does the trick!!! So affordable and easy to hook up! Thank you!!!!
5.0 out of 5 stars Boosted my first gen Ring Chime Pro
I recently bought a high quality router to replace three distributed routers in my house, putting it in a central location instead of the garage near the front of the house. It worked wonders and boosted speeds in all the rooms of the house for phones and tablets, but, due to increased distance and number of walls, not for my 2.5 GHz devices like my first gen Ring devices. They lost signal strength which was causing them to hang while connecting, a frustrating development since connections to alerts and cameras and doorbell are very time sensitive events. So I moved my fiber optic modem to the front of the house and turned on its 2.5 GHz radio and connected that to Chime….but it was worse still. Then I realized I was using a six year old fiber modem/router which predated my Ring devices by a couple years. So I was thinking it was the old WiFi standards implemented in the fiber modem (which still sustains gig Ethernet speeds to the internet just fine and would be expensive to replace for no added bandwidth).I contemplated getting a new Ring Chime Pro but I was leery because the camera devices themselves would still be 2.5 GHz and 5 GHz doesn’t go through walls as well as 2.5 GHz so it seemed doubtful that it’d cure the performance degradation my router move and upgrade had caused. So I installed this device next to my fiber modem, connecting them with the included Ethernet drop cable, turned the modem’s WiFi radio off, and renamed this device’s default SSID what my Ring Chime Pro expected…and as I hoped: the connection and responsiveness issues were resolved. The newer WiFi electronics on this router improved the performance of my old Ring devices significantly…so I got “new and improved 2.5Ghz” on my Ring network by using this router located near my Chime network (first gen).A low cost and easy upgrade! Ring cameras working better than ever!
4.0 out of 5 stars Capable, with some glitches
Keep in mind this is just an access point. It is not intended to function as an all-in-one wireless/wired router. It is good for larger locations where you want to plug several of these into the wired network in different rooms to have strong signal/good throughput everywhere. I have 3 of them.As noted in other reviews - SSL doesn't function - it tries to respond on port 443 but the certificate is either misconfigured or missing and there is no way to install/generate it via the UI (I have both hardware versions 2 and 3 of these with whatever latest firmware available). There are some issues in the Javascript code the login page produces that prevent it opening or completing the loading under some conditions in certain browsers. Best I can describe it is 'finicky'.Another possible minus - the first of these I bought started malfunctioning recently (connects/disconnects even after a reset). This is after at least a couple of years of totally unattended operation and, given the price point, I'm not too disappointed. On the plus side - simple to configure, working SNMP (so you can watch these things in Zabbix), and working SSID-to-VLAN mapping which was important to my use case - these are less SOHO and more enterprise features. Throughput is good.
5.0 out of 5 stars Works, short at least
I have it plugged into a point to point extender. Came up and works fine though I only use it for about 10 feet. I had issues with install and stability of others, No problem with this one.Ironic, I bought it because I was going to buy a new laptop and the new ones don't have ethernet ports. But I found a cheap battery for my old one so I could have stayed hard wired. Oh well, I'll be ready if I do get a new one.
1.0 out of 5 stars Very slow as an access point or extender
I was attempting to use this as an access point in my house. It comes with a POE injector so power can go through cat5 cable. It was easy to set up and within 5 minutes it was going.I noticed right away when I used Google's Speedtest option that it seemed very slow. After resetting it multiple times to defaults and trying some of the other options I had verified that this unit was a huge bottleneck for anything connecting to it. In the photos I show the speed going through this new device (the slow one) and then using the same phone to go through my main AP. The testing was performed multiple times. As you can see it is just way to slow to be of any use to me. Perhaps I received a defective one. I don't know but I returned it anyway. Yes, it is a good bargain at $20, but I would rather pay more for something that gives close to the speed my network is capable of acheiving.
5.0 out of 5 stars Works perfectly, versatile
I have a remote bonus room that's about 100 ft from my main wireless station. I ran a hard-wire ethernet line for the computer there, but recently added a smart tv to the mix. Needless to say, the signal is weak there. I added a 'CableGeeker Ethernet splitter' so I could keep the hard-wire ethernet to my computer, and plugged in the split to this access point. Zero connectivity issues now. Highly recommend this, it's among the most economical access points and it's incredibly versatile.
5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for my application!
I needed WiFi in the shop to stream TV and music. I chose this for the price due to the environment it lives in. I ran cat6 cable from the router in the house to the shop so I can use it as an access point. Now I can get calls and my YouTube mechanic videos. The range seams great. I cannot speak to the durability yet, it seams to be of decent quality. It was easy to setup, and I hate dealing with computer programming stuff. I would recommend for anyone needing a similar application.
3.0 out of 5 stars Really slow!
I ran two 300-foot runs of CAT6 outdoor cable from my router in the barn, one to my shop and the other to my house. In the shop I plugged the cable into an ethernet switch and got 750 Mbs downloads. The run to the house was plugged into this access point. I get only 30 Mbs downloads. Why this huge discrepancy? Granted that WiFi is slower, but more than an order of magnitude? I blame this access point.
Muy bueno cómo repetidor
Si tuviera almenos 4 puertos de red sería excelente, pero solo trae UNO, de ahí todo está bien
