5.0 out of 5 stars New Packaging
Shirakiku used to sell Japanese microwave rice (gohan) in a rectangular container, similar to Katokichi - Takitate Gohan instant Japanese rice. When I used to purchase this at a Japanese market, it would be ~$7/3 pack (a little over 7 oz each). I don't know if Shirakiku still sells those or not, but they've gotten into the bowl containers, similar to other companies like Nishiki. And the bowls are what you are buying with this package deal. For a start, the rice flavor is as good as I remember. In bowl form, one only needs a minute or so to microwave, vs. the two minutes in the old packaging. And for the batch I got, it wasn't as sticky. When I would buy this in the old packaging, I could put a large pat of butter and melt it in with no "crumbling" of the sticky rice. But with this batch. it wasn't the same experience. No big deal, but I thought I'd mention it.As others have mentioned, the price is high per package. When I purchased, it was $26 for the lot (a bit over $2 per bowl),and it is going up. With no shipping, the price per unit was somewhat less than the Japanese market I could order from, and less that other Japanese brands at Walmart. (That could quickly not be true if the price keeps going up.) But I like the convenience, so the price is worth it to me.

Love this, reminds me of real Japanese fresh rice. Best I've tasted microwave.
3.0 out of 5 stars Rice when you need it - but you'll pay for it! NEW PACKAGING SUCKS!!!
UPDATE:Idk if they made new packaging or what, but the past few months it’s been fairly impossible to take the plastic off the top by just pulling the tab. It used to be SUPER easy. Now I’m literally scraping skin off my fingers trying to do it and STILL failing. The rice is great. FIX YOUR PACKAGING!!!! Whatever you did to change the plastic on the top, change it BACK! I lowered my rating a star because of it.I eat this rice nightly at home, in Hawaii. When I was traveling for 2 months for work, I found myself needing rice in the mainland. This costs more than double what I can get it at home, so I almost didn't go for it. But I ended up doing it and was glad. I satisfied my craving, even though it cost me. This would be 5 stars if it were more affordable.
4.0 out of 5 stars Taste
Not as sweet or tasty as some other brands
5.0 out of 5 stars Portion Control
As a diabetic, I must watch my intake of carbohydrates. I do not have to cook a whole potof rice. The rice tastes good and the texture is sticky rice. PERFECT
5.0 out of 5 stars Cooks moist rice quickly
This is the best tasting microwave sticky rice. Heats in 1 minute. Great price too for pack of 12.
