I love to eat and therefore, I like to cook. And I like to use flakey/kosher salt as I pull together a dish. But I live in Florida so no little cute salt dishes where I can reach in and pinch a little salt to spread over my food. Salt [sugar, too, for that matter] are hygroscopic, which means they pull water to them out of the air, creating a soupy, salty [or sweet] mess. Hence, this salt grinder. I tried using kosher salt in a regular salt shaker -- not a success. So I opted for this OXO grinder because I already own the pepper grinder and it works great. So, now I have a pair of salt and pepper grinders that make seasoning my food a whole lot easier. They are easy to fill, easy to adjust the grind size, easy to use, and nice to look at on my counter top or even the dinner table. Grind a little, grind a lot. It's up to you.

We have had many grinders but this one is so easy to use that I bought another one. Now I have two - one for salt and one for pepper. The grind is adjustable from fine to course. No matter what the setting, it is easy to turn the grinder and dispense just the right amount. These have replaced all the others - battery operated, tall wooden one, etc. they are much more eco- friendly than the store bought versions. Great purchase.

I really like that you can tell at a glance what coarseness setting the grinder is at. I also really like that it is stored "business end" up, so that it is not constantly leaving ground pepper on the cabinet shelf -- or wherever else it is put down. Grinding action is smooth and predictable -- which is really all I ever wanted in a grinder.Bonus points for the freshness of the included peppercorns -- mine tasted great. I came for the grinder and was fully prepared to have to replace the peppercorns with some that I knew to be good, but I will be happily using the pre-loaded ones for now.
