This book is filled with valuable information about creating peace and strength in our lives, even during a global pandemic. There are beautiful line drawings with positive energy and lovely poetry adding to the pleasurable reading experience.The section on naps reinforced my opinion on the importance of napping, especially on nights that my sleep was less than optimal. Some sleep therapists are against it, but I strongly disagree.I also benefitted from the links to the author’s instructions online. I’ll be reading this book again and again.

Maryam Ovissi has the heart of a mystic, and in this lovely book, she gifts us with it. Yes, this is about the essentials of self-care, yet it transcends self-help and inspires us with an abundance of creativity. Simply reading it will help you slow your pace and reduce your stress, as you absorb the poetry that, like a line from Rumi or Hafiz or the Radiance Sutras, can in an instant awaken you to the truth of your own true nature. Then, if you can take Ovissi's suggestions to heart and try on a few of the easy practices and rituals, you may find more ease in your busy day and more balance in your mood. Ovissi's drawings and poetry are proof that yoga can be a portal into our own creativity.

This book offers simple, practical self-care ideas to everyone in this hectic modern society. Even if you are not familiar with yoga philosophy (or even if you don't practice yoga!), all the philosophical concepts are explained in a way that everyone can understand and apply to their daily routine. Chapter 4 also explains why and how self-care is important to our body and nervous system through the Polyvagal Theory, which I found very helpful.The drawings and poems in each section are very creative and truly heart-warming. The author compassionately invites us to look within and care for ourselves. Great book to read with a cup of tea in a comfy chair. I have gifted this book to a few of my family and friends.

Just what everyone needs right now, a path to finding self-love and care of the whole self. I've been practicing yoga regularly for over 10 years and it has transformed my life in immeasurable ways. The book Care of the Whole Self is a great guide to finding inner peace, better physical health, and joy utilizing the ancient yogic philosophy and teachings. Maryam Ovissi's book is an easy read and is full of ways to use yogic tools to quell anxiety and stress. The ancient wisdom is sprinkled with the author's beautiful poetry and art. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is searching for inner peace, stress reduction, better sleep, healthy habits, and the path to getting there.

In my search for a chair yoga book, this book title popped up. I was intrigued by the title, so I read it. At the time I read the book, my mind was in constant turmoil, and my physical body was in pain. The contents of this book, which outlined some yoga techniques, also counseled methods for keeping the entire body healthy; something I desperately needed at the time of reading. I felt reassured that, really, there are small and simple things I can do daily to restore my center and sense of well-being. Whether it’s what I eat, what I think about, or how I breathe, this book contains wisdom I can use for the rest of my life. I encourage those who are trying to center their lives in the crazy, chaotic times this book was originally released, to purchase this book.

Many of the self-care books out there are overwhelming with information on how to take better care of yourself and the tools suggested for self-care can be unsustainable to do on a daily basis. This is where Maryam Ovissi’s book Care of the Whole Self stands out. Her book starts out with discussions on why whole-self-care is important (especially in these unprecedented times that we are all experiencing), guides the reader through using yoga and other tools to build a solid foundation for self care, and ends with whole-self care practices for morning, afternoon, and evening. These practices are not complicated and easy to incorporate in your daily routine. And, the benefits are life changing for regulating anxiety and stress. I highly recommend this book and have bought multiple copies for my family and friends.
