I knew from other reviews it would come cracked and I was 100% fine with that. For such a low price I can buy a new jewel case. It also said it wasn’t coming til end of October/ mid November, it came today on the 9th. Thank you so much!

It’s quite simply her best album. In folklore, Taylor Swift has put aside the hunger for radio and chart success and embraced a more quiet sound that still carries a spark and eloquent poignancy. The lyricism is akin to thoughtful prose and fictional storytelling. The melodies? Just as catchy as ever. Tasteful notes of The Cranberries in august, Joni Mitchell in peace, Bruce Springsteen in the last great american dynasty and so much more can be heard throughout the record, too—and yet, Taylor makes sure to stamp that “Swiftian” sound that makes every song unique to her and not a rehash.It’s Taylor like we’ve always know her to be since the beginning in a sound we all hoped she’d one day consider experimenting with.

Can't stop listening to this album. It's an absolute favorite of mine. Sometimes I'll just listen to it on repeat multiple times a day. I like every song on it from beginning to end. Taylor Swift definitely outdid herself. Whenever people ask my favorite song I can never choose cause it changes from day to day. And it's something I listen to for comfort as well. There's something about the tone of the album that just helps me on rough days.

Antonoffとは4曲を作っています。アルバム・タイトルが示すように、サウンドはインディー・フォーク、オルタナティブです。'11年にテイラーがThe Civil Warsと共作・共演した「Safe & Sound」が大好きな僕は、とても気に入りました。Dessner共作作品はどれも良い出来栄え。Antonoff共作では8、9が良い。Aaronと最初に作ったのが初登場全米１位の２。穏やかでおおらかな楽曲だが、エンデイングのささやくようなノイジーさににじむ不安に、今の社会のありさまを感じる。テイラーが７年前に買った別荘にまつわる話の3、歌詞が重いわりに曲はポップで面白い。Justin Vernonとの４、そして14でも共作者とクレジットされているWilliam Boweryとは誰なのか話題らしい。テイラーの兄弟、彼氏など諸説あるが、今のところ正体不明。13では医療従事者を歌う。シンプルな歌詞は映像を観ているようで、つらさもある。穏やかさの中に入る意表を突く歌いまわしとあわさって、深く心に入ってくる。一転、ほほえましい歌詞のフォーキーな14には、心が和み励まされる。DVDは、２のMVと1から16までのリリック・ビデオ。歌詞の見せ方に工夫がされていて、ついつい見入ってしまいます。9ではアカデミー賞を受賞したある映画を思い出すでしょう。インナースリーヴに歌詞があり、国内盤は対訳がついています。良いこともそうでないことも含めて、自分の想像の中でいろいろと体験させてくれて、少し人間らしさが戻ったかなと感じることができる、とても貴重な作品です。

久しぶりの傑作
デビュー作からテイラーのアルバムは全て購入してますが今作はベストを争う出来です。「1989」や「レピュテーション」があんまり好みじゃない古参ファンは多いと思いますがそういう人にかなり刺さるアルバムです。ポップ味がかなり薄れて凄く渋いフォークアルバムになっています。全ての曲が素晴らしい捨て曲なしのアルバムです。個人的ベストトラックは「The Last Great American Dynasty」ですね。美しいメロディに流暢で優美に歌われる歌詞とテイラーの良い部分を凝縮したような曲です。CD版に収録されているボーナストラックも良いのでCD版の購入をオススメします。
旅の途中で観る景色、まだ旅の途中
自分はテイラーをずっと敬遠してきた。デビュー当時は、可愛い、アメリカの片田舎から出てきたカントリー歌手ってイメージだが、カントリー歌手にしては歌唱力が覚束なかった気がする。で、次第にポップな要素が色濃くなり出し、急激に売れ出し、チャートを賑わし、YouTubeの再生回数で数を稼ぐ人だとか、最近では時に政治的は発信もする人として、興味が失せていた。ピンク色を基調としたファンシーな前作はそのジャケットに惹かれてつい購入しそうになったが、冷静に曲を視聴して買うのをやめた。だが、心のどこかで何か気になっているのを感じてはいるのだ。あのファンシーなジャケットとは対照的なモノクロームの今回のアルバム（このタイトルもアーティスト名もない、雄弁な写真によるジャケットは秀逸でこれにまず惹かれた）を視聴して、ついにとうとう初テイラーのアルバム購入である。正直、自分の中で勝手な色眼鏡で見ていた感は否めない。ジャンクフード的な打ち込みのやや胸焼けするリズムに目を瞑れば、そう悪くない。後半になるにつれ生のライブ感が増し、聴く程にその年齢的に深みを増した歌声にはハッとする瞬間がある。旅の途中で見た景色に足を止めて、見惚れる。だが、また歩みを始めて旅は続く。このアルバムにおける、テイラーによる「プロローグ」の文章には何かを喚起させられる。それが何かは判らない。国内盤を購入したが、評論家の無粋な能書きが一切なかったので救われた。このテイラーによる「プロローグ」の文章だけで、すんなりアルバムに入っていける。曲の良し悪し、アレンジなど不満を探したらキリがない。ここは、今まで抱え込んでいた余計な荷物をおろして、この音に酔ってみたい。そんなアルバムだ。単純に「フォークアルバム」で片付けることはむしろ、テイラーに失礼だろう。ここまでの彼女の旅に触れてこなかったのだから。このような出逢いに感謝する。音楽はまだ死んでいない。どこまでも旅の途中なのだろう。
プレゼント用として。
久し振りにTaylorの原点であるカントリーに帰って来たという感じですね。ラブソングというよりもメッセージ性を拡げた"愛"と信頼をテーマにした楽曲の印象でした。いつからか？アルバムを出す度に良い意味で予想を外し驚かしくれる楽曲が多かっただけに、今回Taylorの原点であるカントリーフォーク調に戻ったアルバムのCDリリースはある意味正解だったと思いました。小生自身がYouTubeで聞き納得した上で娘への誕生日プレゼントのひとつとして購入しました。因みに本CDアルバムは娘20歳への誕生日のひとつとしてMiley CyrusのPlastic Hearts Japanese Editionと抱き合わせたプレゼント用でした（娘の音楽趣味を無視しデス 笑）。なので小生は開封しておらずCDに傷がついていたとか音飛びするとかといった欠陥商品なのかは分かりません。販売者（Siegfried９９）から直接送られてくるに当たり解りやすいプチプチ封筒に入れられきましたが、出来れば一応ワレモノ注意等の記載をして送って欲しかったかなと・・。商品の外観は綺麗でした。海賊版ではなく、日本版正規品だと思います。（ここ数年のアマゾン発送、ナンチャッテ プチプチ封筒での梱包は論外です。）
