Tango Tips by the Maestros: When more than 40 maestros decide to help you develop your tango

Description:

What if you could get the advice of 40+ tango maestros in one single book?

This book brought together for the first time in the tango history icons of tango, judges of the World Tango Championship (Mundial de Tango), world champions, and experienced teachers from around the world, and asked them one question:

If you could give a few pieces of advice that you consider extremely valuable to a few tens of thousands tangueros and tangueras, what would you say?

The maestros covered topics from musicality to elegance, from connection to balance, from embrace to trust, from body awareness to the difference between good and great dancers. Together, they tackled questions such as developing a personal style, reducing tension, creating warmth, dancing more, learning faster, breaking through the plateau that keeps some people’s tango the same (hint: your technique is rarely the issue).

The purpose of the book is one: to help the eager tanguero and tanguera enjoy tango more and discover actionable, clear, and simple advice to develop further the necessary skills of this beautiful dance.

Disclaimer: This book is not intended for readers who haven’t had any tango classes. It is intended as a powerful supplement for those who are already learning and dancing argentine tango.

I am totally blown away by the quality, quantity, and diversity of the magnificent advice in this book!I urge you to visit Bolo's "Look Inside" for the paperback edition. Check out the Table of Contents. Visit any pages. I feel certain that you will find, as I did, that the writing here feels like a warm, comfortable tango embrace. This is NOT a book to read through. This is a book to dip into from time to time, to find inspiration, to find comfort, to help to understand. I first read the Introductory material, and Dimitris has such a warm, helpful way of writing. It feels like a friend by your side giving guidance on how to get the most out of the book. I expect that his desire to help others and his inspiring way of writing had a major influence on *all* of the book's content.I've read only a few chapters so far, but I feel confident that every person who contributed to it can feel justifiably proud of how they have contributed to Argentine tango.A wee-bit of helpful feedback that I would give is that a book of such scope, with so many diverse topics and authors, really, really deserves a top-notch Index.Thank you, Dimitris. I am so impressed with what you and the authors have accomplished with the TANGO TIPS book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Enlightening

B.D. · October 2, 2024

As a new tango dancer, I thought that this book would be about technique. It is so much more, and I feel lucky that I choose this as my first book to read on the subject. It is about the philosophy, psychology and inner journey of the dance with lots of factual elements on history, music, anatomy interwoven throughout. In short, it explains the zen quality if the dance, and I understand now why I became addicted at my first class.

5.0 out of 5 stars Invaluable book for those who want to get better in tango

I.B. · June 30, 2022

It would take me years to find out even quarter of what is written in these pages, but now I just hold in my hands a whole book, full of priceless advice, experience and wisdom of Maestros. I was taking my first steps in tango when I bought this book drawn to desire to learn more about it, take a look through the slightly opened door to the great teachers and maybe hear the words they said. Instead of this, the door opened wide and I was greeted with warmth, sincerity and open-handedness of amazing dancers. So many great tips. So many valuable thoughts about tango. So much help, supportive and useful information. Very important and invaluable book for those who have tango addiction and want to get better at dance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perhaps the best book on the essence of Tango

S.G. · July 11, 2022

This is perhaps the best book on the essence of Tango - connection, technique, musicality etc. What I find most valuable is that this book offers various perspectives from multiple Maestras/Maestros. There are many controversial topics on the connection, embrace, dancing open vs closed, interpreting music and so on... This book indicates that there may be many paths leading to the ultimate Tango experience, much as in life.Dimitris, thank you for sharing your invaluable work with the rest of the community!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Information for Argentine Tango dancers!

T.A. · March 11, 2020

There is a lot of useful information in the collaboration of Argentine Tango Maestors/Maestras collected by Dimitris Bronkowski. Although there is some overlapping information they all reinforce the importance of Axis and Balance. I am a fan of Helaine Treitman as well as Detlef Engel and Melina Sedo and their chapters did not disappoint. I am a new fan of Pablo Gomez and Ludmila Srnkova. If you watch Ludmilla's videos on the Readers Online Environment (a great benefit when you buy the book) regarding the step after the sandwich Pablo is hilarious. They contributed some technical information about musicality which is very useful. If you dance Argentine Tango you should add this book to your learning process.

Tango is much more than just a dance and there are so many paths and viewpoints on how to grow into it as a dancer. What didn't speak to me in this book may well be "gold' to you. Be sure to check out the online portion as there's a lot of information there as well.

Tango Tips by the Maestros. Why Tango. The meaning of Tango . Colonial Argentina.得したこと:タンゴの本がスラスラ読めるようになりました。 良かったです。

An important book for your tango journey

K.C. · December 27, 2022

How did I keep myself focussed on tango throughout the endless lockdowns of the COVID pandemic? Although I could not attend classes, festivals or milongas, I could read as many books on tango as I could get my hands on. Two of the most important of these were Dimitris Bronowski's Tango Tips by the Maestros, and its companion volume, Tangofulness. These books encouraged me to think about tango as a deeper artform and as a way of life. There are many ideas in these texts which inspired me, but in general terms what stayed with me was the sense that, when I dance with anyone - no matter who they are or their level of expertise - my goal is to give them the best tango experience that I possibly can.In Tango Tips by the Maestros, Bronowski has assembled contributions from renowned tango maestros who offer advice on technique, on musicality, who give their explorations of tango connection, and discuss the importance of enjoying the embrace. Amongst this cacophony of voices you will find treasures: moments of tango wisdom which will help to guide you to the next stage of your tango journey. If I was to choose one specific favourite moment from Maestros, it would be Juan Stephanides' idea about the embrace; about focussing on your partner's natural tendencies: to open 'your body and your senses to understand as much as possible, to listen, to feel.'When the tango classes, festivals and milongas returned, I was a different dancer.

My first tango book that brought hope in a tango desert

I was living in a tango desert with basically no good teacher who could help me progress, so I turned to the Internet searching for tango books-honestly, before, I did not believe books could help me with dance, but after reading this, it equipped me with certain angles of understanding that later struck me during actual dance-ah, it is what this means!
