5.0 out of 5 stars Great survival food
Absolutely great food tastes just like chicken and dumplings
5.0 out of 5 stars Chicken & Dumplings for the win.
Chicken & Dumplings are the Mountain House meal that made me way less of a skeptic about these sort of freeze dried adventure foods. It is delicious comfort food, and after eating this particular one in a pinch on a camping trip I happily ordered two more.
4.0 out of 5 stars Nice size
Mine needed a hint more water to hydrate but it tasted really good. Easy to make. I could see this a good size meal or two light portions. I can see how this company has met its sells. I plan to buy more.UPDATE: I can't seem to get the chicken to fully hydrate. Had a measuring cup to use, added a hint more water (boiling) and followed directions closely. It hydrated in the Fried Rice and the Chicken Alfredo so it just seems this meal. Not really bad tasting but odd texture for the chicken. Still, if it was there and I had nothing else, I would happily eat it as it wasn't that bad. Just not Chicken Alfredo.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great shelf life and tastes good.
Great shelf life, excellent for camping, emergencies, day trips, hikes or any on the go situation. The shelf life is the best part about it. In an emergency to know you have this meal as a safety net is comforting. The fact that it actually tastes good is an added bonus! I would eat this anytime, no emergency necessary. I recommend this product, it's a good product. The Minor Con Is Price - These freeze dried meals are a bit pricy. Especially when comparing to an MRE (Meal Ready to Eat). MRE's come with a comparable main course, sides, snacks, coffee, desert, drink powder pouches, flameless heaters, accessory packs an more. Most MREs, just open the pouch and start eating. MRE's have some really tasty menus too. You can buy an MRE literally for the same price and in some instances less than this. The shelf life is only (3-5 years) but there's no need to add water in most MREs. (unless cold weather MRE)Point being, it depends on how you intend to use the product. There are pros/cons to both. If extended shelf life isn't of great importance, I Just feel you get more value out of an MRE. If this freeze dried brand were to reduce their prices a bit, I would certainly buy them more often and I'm confident others would follow suit. A price reduction would also eliminate the price comparison of these freeze dried meals to MREs.
5.0 out of 5 stars I'm buying these by the six pack from now on
This Mountain House Chicken and Dumplings is one of their best offerings. Quite tasty, simple to cook, moderate price, and with more protein and calories than most other freeze dried foods. When I'm camping/backpacking/canoeing I look for freeze dried choices that don't leave me hungry and keep my protein intake up where it should be during physical activities.
5.0 out of 5 stars Good meal
These are very light weight and taste pretty good. There are two servings and I ate every bit of it. It was very filling and the nutritional value was good.
5.0 out of 5 stars Hurricane Prep Essential
I live in south Florida and unfortunately can't evacuate during Hurricanes. My career makes me stay as a essential worker for recovery. I have worked Irma, Elsa and the last beast, Ian. I didn't have power for 11 days and lived out of my work truck for days at a time. These have always been apart of my "survival kit" as all I need is hot water. (Sometimes I get that by leaving a metal can of water under the hood of my truck to heat it up) These meals are delicious. I highly recommend them for anyone backpacking, or needing survival food. They last forever in your closet and they are insanely easy to ready up. Pour in hot water. Stir. Leave it sit for a few minutes and you're good to go. I've tried them all. They are a little pricey sure. They have a lot of salt in them, yup, but when you're sweating 20 hours a day in the Florida humidity, you need it. These are about the only thing I look forward to during a Hurricane. (...ok Maybe some Hazard Pay as well)
