5.0 out of 5 stars A WONDERFUL pop/rock album!
(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } Nine out of ten tracks are very good to excellent (I still haven't quite learned to enjoy "Need A Little Love"...give me time). Absolute favorite songs are "Lay Your Body Down", "The Last Songbird" and "Strangers In The Street". I sometimes just play those 3 songs over and over...they are SO good! I also really like "Six Days In June", "Hello Stranger" and the title track. The melodies are beautiful, I love the vocals....I frankly can't say enough good things about this album! I've bought albums for well over 50 years, and my collection runs the gamut...Beatles to Zeppelin...pop to metal...'60's to 00's...this album is definitely one of the best overall albums I've heard! Thank you very much to the Fratellis for this gem!!
5.0 out of 5 stars Nailed it!!
Fantastic album! I readily admit that I haven't followed this band and only discovered them with this album, but I know a good album when I hear one. I looked back at older albums and realize this album probably doesn't sit well for long time fans, but it's right up my alley. This thing is excellent all the way through, with great melodies and nice production value. Definitely has a 60's feel, but also reminds me of other melodic bands like Trash Can Sinatras, James. Best album I've found since Black Mile To The Surface.
5.0 out of 5 stars A new, but welcome style.
While not their usual style, this album offers some awesome new tracks. It’ll definitely tickle the fancy of both new and returning fans, especially the bonus tracks and covers.
1.0 out of 5 stars Not going to mince words...
This album stinks. Not anything like The Fratelli's other stuff. Don't waste your money.
2.0 out of 5 stars A Surprising Direction for The Fratellis
I have been listening to The Fratellis since I was a sophmore in high school with their debut album. That record stands on its own, but their follow-up work has done plenty to grow their appeal and alter their sound, even if it never hit the same level of popularity that the likes of Flathead or Chelsea Dagger took them to.There's too much on offer from their catalog to go into too much detail, but The Fratellis have changed their style and sound to great effect over the years. One of their greatest attributes were the incredible hooks, be it vocally or instrumentally-- you would find instantly memorable melodies on dozens of tracks, from their follow-up second album to the stellar We Need Medicine (arguably their best record, with the title track oddly being the most forgettable song on the record) to the more synth/keyboard heavy tracks on Eyes Wide/In Your Own Sweet Time, both featuring fantastic songs with incredible vocals and instruments, with melodies that stick in your mind long after you've listened to them.Half Drunk Under a Full Moon, then, comes as a bit of a surprise when compared to the band's past discography. There is nothing that instantly pops out at you with a driving beat and infectious melody; almost every song is plodding simplistic, but simultaneously sounding disatisfyingly dull, with half-hearted singing that plods along to basic tunes. There's never an uproarious moment to the album, let alone some unconventional riff or chorus that grips you. It all sounds like the slower songs from their past two albums, without the heart and poignancy that made "Imposters" or "Slow" so great or even the underlying rhythm that made songs like "Laughing Gas" so enjoyable. This is all a matter of perspective and taste, but I can't imagine fans of their previous work finding this anywhere close to what they would have liked to hear. That's all perfectly fair, of course-- the band has earned the right to put out whatever music they want, even if it feels more appropriate for solo material or album filler-- songs are not easy to write, even if they come across that way.If you go into this with the thought of their slower work stretched into a full album with basic melodies and no real hooks, it might not disappoint you as much as it did for me. You'll probably even like it after a few listens-- just not nearly as much as their previous works.
2.0 out of 5 stars A band that was once fun to listen is not so much anymore!
This band's evolution from their fun, upbeat debut to this has not been exciting to watch. With each release the band's music has become less and less interesting to me. They have gone from fun to depressing both musically and lyrically. I don't expect any band to continue to make the same album over and over, that's not exciting either. However, I do want to feel like the band's sound is still there at it's core and this simply doesn't feel that way for me. The closest it comes is on the single "Six Days in June".
C'est un des meilleurs groupes actuels malheureusement trop méconnu.
(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } C'est d'un bout à l'autre le meilleur album de ce groupe dont le chanteur a une voix extraordinaire. Il est aussi l'auteur et le compositeur.
pop leggero leggero
pop impalpabile, disco del tutto inutile, non lascia il segno.
Love the fratellis, but…
This one just isn’t hitting me. There are some good tunes here, and as always the musicianship and lyricism are top notch. I dunno, just not feeling this one.
Besser, als vermutet
Für uns das Album des ersten Quartals! Gute Laune Garantie😊Sehr poppig! Eingängig, tanzbar, mitsingbar...
Muy buena música
