Short version: I’ve tried upgrading to ID6, didn’t work, getting a 12.3 android screen, worked poorly, finally got this and it works great.Long version: Okay so my original attempt at getting CarPlay for my 2016 F32 was to upgrade my iDrive4 to iDrive6. This worked for like a week and then it started glitching and failing. The online coder who didn’t tried fixing it twice but it ended up nuking my radio. CarPlay didn’t work, Bluetooth didn’t work, usb didn’t work, only the aux cable.Next I tried one of those 12.3 inch android screens. Thing was way too big BUT CarPlay worked. However it was laggy, screen was too bright at night even on dimmest setting, and my original system wouldn’t work (this was my fault, I bought an Evo when I should have bought and NBT version, I thought since I upgraded to iDrive6 I needed Evo but I didn’t).Finally I got this thing and boy do I wish I did this first and save months of headache. Install was easy and it’s not laggy at all. It utilizes the aux cord which is exactly what I needed since nothing else would have worked in my weird case (it’s easy to run it under the dash and to the glove box from the inside).Hiccup I had that might help people: If when you hold “menu” it goes black instead of to CarPlay, make sure your pins are set on the box to match your screen size, aka read the directions. If it’s still black, hold the back button down on your iDrive to reset the MMI box.

Installation was pretty straightforward - the most difficult step was tucking the new box in with all of the new wires. I finally positioned the box and then connected the wires and that was a better solution.The new CarPlay looks and works great!

This is definitely a game changer. The CarPlay works pretty well, all things considered. The install was also pretty simple just the wire that goes from the oem screen to the unit got confusing because I was keeping my oem screen. The only 2 complaints I have is when I go into reverse my oem camera doesn’t come up unless I go back to the bmw menu. The second is calls, for some reason i can’t hear the other party. They can hear me

This product sucks big time. To begin with; The setup instructions are not very clear. The connection to the phone is not reliable. After turning the vehicle off and turning it back on later the Apple CarPlay would not turn on 9 out of 10 times. Tech support in no were to be found. You will get frustrated with this product. DONT BUY IT!

UPDATE: I reached out to their customer service through the Chat functionality on Bolo. They’ve been very helpful. I am updating the firmware now, which hopefully will fix any issues.Original msg: Latest iOS (iOS 26 - 2025 revision) rendered my unit useless. Can't connect to CarPlay. Do not buy this, no longer works.

This product is much cheaper than the bimmertech MMI box. I had one bimmertech reverse camera mmi box installed in my bmw f25/X3. But it failed recently after 5 years. Their product is 600 and more. I decided to get this product instead. The installation is easy and smooth. Now I have reverse camera view and apple carplay both. The only cons for me is there is no lines to reminder you when you turning steering while reversing(used aftermarket reverse camera) but it is not a problem for experienced driver.

I was a bit worried when I bought this item because it was so much cheaper than the Bimmertech version. The wiring harness is a beast. Once installed though, it works amazing. I have the NBT EVO version, but it does have the 6 pin, so it works great. They say you need the AUX cable to the AUX port, but I didn't need it at all. I just switch it to AUX and the music plays perfectly. When I go in reverse, the factory camera displays perfectly. I see the guide lines and all. When using wireless, it uses BT and Wifi to work. The Wifi is to display images and video and BT is for audio and calls. I do Rideshare and I hate the voice prompts from the GPS. This box allows me to use the steering wheel Mode button to switch between XM Sat radio or Aux but still have Android Auto as the main screen. I highly recommend this product. The original BMW nav is terrible. The BMW BT is terrible. Because my phone is newer, I have to re-pair it everytime I get in the car. With this box, my BT connects immediately and Android Auto comes on by default.

It worked really well. Installation took about 2 hours. I've never installed a radio before in a car, so if you have done that before, then I'm sure it will take you less time. Everything worked: the steering wheel button and microphone without the need to rewire the audio and mic. I would for sure recommend this to anyone. It gave my car that much-needed refresh to Android Auto without purchasing a new car.

Really easy to install and to configure. The system works almost flawlessly.Best upgrade to this vehicle, makes it feel so much more up-to-date.Only thing is the OEM Park distance screen shows when you are in reverse. (If you only have the backside of park distance indicators, you do not have the button on the center console.) This screens stays on, if you press back you simultaneously use the original system and the carplay system together.But this situation is only when you parked the vehicle and most of the time, get out of the vehicle. So not that much of an issue!

CarPlay e Android Auto si attivano rapidamente non appena si collega il telefono.Qualità audio eccellente: nessuna perdita di qualità, sia nelle chiamate che nella riproduzione musicale.Interfaccia utente fluida: risposta rapida ai comandi sia dal touch screen (se disponibile) che dal controller iDrive. CarPlay retrofit for my Mini Cooper 2016 F55
The media could not be loaded. I am seriously impressed with this piece of kit! I purchased a second hand 2016 Mini Cooper F55, which came with the 6.5 inch non touchscreen visual boost radio. However I was so used to using CarPlay in my previous car that I really wanted a retrofit option for my Mini. Having researched online, I saw technicians were able to install for around £600! This was well out of my budget, I then came across this self installation solution for a fraction of the price.Having watched some installation videos online, I wasn’t phased by the work required and it looked fairly straight forward, even for someone with no previous car electrical knowledge like myself. With the help of the provided instruction booklet and the online videos referenced in the booklet I was able to complete the installation successfully in around an hour. I even made my own step by step installation video to help others out.The system worked flawlessly, when running the CarPlay feature it was identical to factory built version I had used in my previous car. No lagging or distortion, it operates very smoothly. Now I have access to Waze, WhatsApp and all my other favourite apps. I am able to navigate using the existing dials, just like I would operate the screen normally.With this system you are also able to access features factory built CarPlay systems cannot offer, such as the ability to mirror your screen via airplay (if your an iPhone user like myself) which is pretty nifty- you could watch a movie whilst parked up for example. All the audio works through the existing car speakers too.But there are also capabilities for Android users (Android Auto), although I couldn’t test this out as I only own an iPhone. However I have no doubt it would work just as well as the CarPlay integration.This system also allows for rear and front parking cameras to be installed and the kit provides all the necessary cables to do so.Overall I have been extremely impressed with the capabilities of this system, and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to anyone considering upgrading their existing interface for a more advanced smartphone integrated version.
