Like all raw wood stuff, they need sanding and priming. I covered my first one with red/pink themed postage stamps to go with my red desk. I love how it looks and functions. The cardboard tissue boxes are cute, but too light. It's annoying to have to have two hands free to grab a tissue! The wooden box is heavy enough for one-handed use. :)One tip: The sliding bottom is very loose while the wood is unfinished, so put some tape or something on it until you've gotten enough coats of paint on to make it fit snugly. Mine fell out a couple of times before I thought to do this. Thankfully, it didn't crack.

Very well made with no sharp edges on the corners. The bottom piece that slides out is too loose (it will fall out easily), but that isn't a big deal for me. Love this.

Size is a bit off. You can't fit the tissue box in the holder. You have to take tissues out of box and put them in holder. It's a perfect DIY project. I painted and put transfers on them. Goid value too.

Just have the kids draw on paper, and brush on Modge-Podge to adhere to the 4 box sides. Have done this as gifts for several years and they do hold up well over time.

The grain is so beautiful that I am going to stain them instead of spray them. They are very well made. Sturdy,yet not at all bulky. I will have exactly what I want,satisfaction of creating the unique look and spending 1/3 of a pre made tissue holder. I may border it with a color from my room. BTW I always finish these kinds of things with at least one coat of clear spray paint. Keeps it in better condition and makes it last forever. A great buy and you don’t even have to be a Major DIYer. Enjoy!!

These tissue box covers looked good upon arrival. The unfinished wood is very light in color, so I took the time to stain, sand, and apply three coats of semigloss polyurethane. Beautiful result which matches other woodwork in my house. However, then I ran into a problem. “Puffs” is a very popular tissue brand here in the USA, but the wood covers are too small for the Puffs cubes. Dang, that was a bad surprise. I had to squeeze, crush, and force the Puffs cubes into the wood covers. The result was so tight that tissues couldn’t easily be pulled out. They were coming out in small shreds rather than whole tissues. I had no choice but to waste the first 6 or 8 useless tissues, in order to reduce pressure on remaining tissues. If you use Puffs, be prepared for frustration. Maybe other tissue brands have a slightly smaller box size, I don’t know. The wood covers would have deserved a 5 star rating if they were a little bit larger.
