Reviews:
5.0 out of 5 stars Very fun too watch, educational, exploring political aspects, not pontificating.
Some did not like the political aspects. I thought the show very intelligently and poignantly highlighted the political aspects of potentially colonizing mars. I did not see it as making political statements, but rather just showing various aspects, not pontificating. The drama between the actors and the positive consequences of making cooperative and thoughtful decisions, and the often negative consequences of making reckless decisions was very well-done and a joy to watch. I found myself very engrossed and cared about the characters in the show. Hope so much that there will be a season 3!
5.0 out of 5 stars Great series
Hard to find dvd at a decent price. It’s a good story told over 2 seasons.
5.0 out of 5 stars Plenty of new drama!
And we are right back in the thick of the story. Time has elapsed but the characters are still involved in the survival and science of the planet and pushing themselves into creating really interesting tangents to living on a new planet. The mission is evolving as well and with that change and that progression comes thought provoking ideas to consider. How do we do this apart from our original ideas, apart from the science of discovery? How do we as humans adapt to the unfamiliar and the unknown for the duration of our lives? It's a gift to be able to live through what many of us will never actually see, but can now think about through this wonderful story telling. I'm way into it.
4.0 out of 5 stars Love the show, but I'd rather them give more time to the sci-fi part.
The sci-fi part is great, but I feel that the current events side is a bit too prominent. I like this show because of it's realistic technology and interpretation of what Martian life (if there is any). The disease outbreak in episode 4 is something I think is not brought up enough when discussing the consequences of discovering alien microbes, people talk a lot about what might happen to them, but largely ignore the possibility that they could be extremely infectious to us.
5.0 out of 5 stars Realistic vision of Mars, great characters
I like the science and vision and special effects of this show, along with the characters. It's mixed with documentary and expert commentary, which some people may not like, but I find interesting and grounding. The dialogue and character development is great, and I like that it's more about the mission than another battle/war sci fi shoot em up. The tension and conflict is done as well at the economic and political level. Really great to see and well done. Please make another season(s)!
3.0 out of 5 stars A somewhat entertaining disappointment overall.
Mars Season 2 is far lower quality than Season 1. The overall reason is that it is an obvious left-wing, pro-global warming, anti-oil company, anti-Trump screed couched in the story of colonizing Mars. While there were hints of this in Season 1 the only hints in this season are a story outside of these themes.I could write a lot illustrating specific examples of this but if you watch one episode of this Season the others follow the same path. It really lessens the whole package since it turns into a propaganda fest Joseph Geocells would have loved even with several redeeming story lines like the birth of the first baby on Mars or the terraforming which they could have done a lot more with. So, should one buy the Season 2? If you have Season 1, yes since it continues the overall story even with the baggage of bias seen. If you have never seen Season 1, don’t waste your time or money. I hear someone might turn Kim Stanley Robinson’s Mars trilogy into a movie or series – he is one of the commentators on Mars by the way. If they do, let’s hope they avoid the in your face tell only one side of a political/environmental story you see in Season 2. A somewhat entertaining disappointment overall.
5.0 out of 5 stars Nail biting, on the edge of your seat viewing. Reality sets in for the future.
When going to Mars, intergalactic agreements between world govt.'s will try to thwart private enterprise for commercial gain on Mars. And of course, a giant multi-national mining company arrives on Mars with no respect for the original settlers. However, they did their homework and tell the world to go to hell on the basis of escalating their stock value on Wall Street, because they based themselves in a non-signatory country to the inter-govt. Mars agreement. Mars first baby is born, solar flares nearly kill the whole planet, but the greed of the mining company's commander is suddenly stopped, when his daughter on earth becomes his biggest regret of coming to Mars as a single parent. The settlers mission commander's twin sister dies en-route to Mars, as they cannot stand to be apart from each other but she has a medical pre-condition that should have prevented her from space travel in the first place. Real life stuff on earth gets transported to another planet. But more importantly, we still as humans cannot solve the problems between us, even on another planet.
5.0 out of 5 stars This Show ROCKS!
LOVE this show! Season 1 was OUTSTANDING. I am really looking forward to SEASON 2 - already purchased the season pass to see them all. HURRY BACK PLEASE! :)I love the drama --- that alone would be a great show, but its fun to see the interviews and history recordings of the space program then and now in progress. I am fascinated with the science and psychology of surviving on another planet.. the acting is top notch, too.
Good but not great
A follow up to season 1 which was really good. This is more story than documentary and is good but not as good. Also the series is a bit shorter than the first ? Still worth a watch tho
