I hate paper. Despite my efforts to reject it, businesses keep feeding it to me. This space saving device was chosen to pair with my new Asus laptop. Now I can watch TV and, at the same time, make short work of paper clutter. I scan everything as a searchable PDF to OneDrive. Here are my tips for a smooth software install. Ready the scanner, but don't plug it in. Download and install the "driver and utilities combo package installer" from Epson. Immediately after that completes, run the software updater component to add the OCR add-in. Once you do that, it's time to scan. You'll find a searchable PDF save option. As an IT professional, I give this scanner my full endorsement!

Very portable, this scanner hasn't failed me yet. I even scan things in upside-down and it automatically adjusts the image. I've been scanning my bills for years and this has been amazing. Just becareful with the connection wire. Seems like where the wire enters the unit, it could have wiggled loose because the computer will disconnect it until I take the cord out of the computer and out it back into the usb slot. I've also had this fall on the floor a few times because of its portability but no negative impact. Find a solid surface and becareful. Its been great though. Some tech just stops working sometimes and this device has been faithful enough that I likely will stick with this brand for replacements and recommendations for friends. No longer having boxes of files, this has been wonderful!

I read the other reviews and decided to give it a shot myself, and I'm very thankful I did, it is very convenient to use and to carry around in laptop bag, it scans pretty fast and works well with scanning sports cards into computer for grading. Have had zero issues with the app or the scanner, it is worth every penny spent, I highly recommend this scanner to anyone who wants a fast great scanner. works with my MacBook and my Dell.

The EPSON ES-50 is a basic single sheet scanner without a lot of frills. If you are looking for basic no hassle scanning from a single computer or device is just fine. For wireless shared scanning over a network, you must purchase the similar ES-60W. You must download the driver and software from EPSON onto your computer, but other than plugging it in a USB port nothing else is required. Very easy to use with one button scanning. It takes a gentle touch to get the paper lined up square since there are no paper guides, but for that you get a lightweight scanner with a small footprint. Since I plan to travel with it in my backpack, and it does not come with a case, I purchased a fitted case separately to protect it. I took a chance and purchased mine as "like new in original packaging" from Bolo resale to save 30 bucks. It came in generic packaging, but is like new and works just fine. Recommended.

The quality is great but none of my photos that I feed into the scanner come out right. All photos are cropped heavily and it's different every time I rescan it. The photo is flat and not at an angle but half the time the result is heavily cropped with the image being diagonal. I have followed everything support told me which wasn't helpful because it was telling me to use settings that was suppose to fix this issue but those settings wouldn't be there or were already set. I would set the document size to the size of the photo I'm scanning and it would still crop half of it. This is not worth what it's asking and I will never buy this again. This is suppose to make scan documents and photos easy and quick and all it does is crop them in half.

This small scanner works great out of the box after installing the driver/application. It is fast and does a great job. Better than a flat bed scanner because I can do legal size documents in one scan. The software is also great compared to others I've used. Easy to create a pdf.

So small and so easy! Does a better job at documents than pictures but can definitely do both. Great for the typical consumer (receipts, invoices, the occasional 20 pg document) but if you are looking to scan multiple pages with one click, then this isn't the scanner for you. I am gifting it to family members this year!

stopped working
I loved this product when it arrived, but only used it a few times and it just stopped working, despite trying new connections, multiple computers. Instructions say to attach USB directly to computer - my MAC OS laptop doesn't have a USB port. Big disappointment. Makes me hesitant to order a replacement.
