I'm refinishing my 75 year old hardwood floors. Southern pine and oak floors. I prefer this method over lambswool or the flat pad applicator although I wish I bought a longer one. I have to coat my floors in a specific manner in order to be able to use alternate rooms while the sealers and topcoat are ring, but I dislike cleaning it after each use, wasting precious product. So I carefully wrap my coater in plastic wrap and put it in my freezer or my fridge, depending on the intervals. It thaws out pretty quickly. At the end of a project, I clean it thoroughly using a mixture of warm water, little dish soap and ammonia, like I do cleaning brushes and roller covers. I dump it out a couple of times and make the mixture again. Then rinse, rinse, rinse, squeeze out the water, and dry it by rolling uo in rags or paper towels. If I feel any crunchy texture, I reclean it. Be gentle. If you cut or tear the foam, it could show up in your wood surface.
