This shroud and dual 12" fan setup is clearly designed for vehicle radiator applications, but I ended up using it for something entirely different—cooling a solar-powered yard barn. The idea was to create active airflow using one fan to draw in cooler air and the other to exhaust heat from the upper end of the structure. For that purpose, it’s been working well so far.The aluminum shroud feels sturdy enough, though not particularly heavy-duty. The finish was clean and free from burrs or warping. It’s clearly formed for radiator mounting, so adapting it for my project required some basic bracket fabrication, but the rectangular layout worked in my favor.The fans are what you’d expect in this price and size range—compact, lightweight, and relatively quiet when running at full speed. They don’t move a massive amount of air, but for my needs (gradual thermal management in a closed space), they’re adequate. If these were in a high-demand engine bay pulling through a radiator at idle in traffic, I might have different expectations, but for solar cooling, they seem to be holding up.Wiring was simple, and the fans draw modest current. I wired them through a small 12V controller tied to my solar system, and startup has been consistent when voltage is available. Noise is minimal—there’s a low hum, but not intrusive unless you’re standing right next to it. No buzzing or bearing noise so far.It’s too early to say anything about longevity, but since this setup won’t be exposed to the same extremes as under-hood temperatures, I’m hopeful they’ll last. I’d imagine that in a standard automotive environment, long-term durability would depend a lot on how frequently the fans are cycling and whether they’re protected from debris. In my case, they’ll mostly be sheltered and run on mild duty cycles.If you're looking at this for a non-automotive application and are comfortable adapting the mounting, it’s a good starting point. The design is clean, and the spacing of the fans in the shroud helps reduce turbulence when configured for intake and exhaust. You’ll still need to provide your own relays or controller if you're not wiring them directly to a switched source.This fan and shroud assembly works well for lower-demand airflow applications and seems like a versatile piece if you're creative with your mounting. Time will tell how the motors hold up, but for now, I’m satisfied with how it's performing in my solar cooling setup.
Works for champion 3 core alumnium radiator
Fits champion 3 core aluminum radiator. Part number crossrefrence matches champions kit, im running a slightly modified 454 and the stock fans hardly kept up in +30c under normal driving. Highway it didn't breath enough so I cut speed flaps using 30mm EPDM to cover the holes when at low speeds/idle. Works as a cheaper alternative but in the long run out have rather spend extra $$ and got the champion kit and had it work out of the box. Still works, just required lots of trial and error, and 180w motors for the fans.
