They will brace against a source of pressure which is why dogs lean against collars. It is important to measure your dog carefully and order the proper size. Using a flexible measuring tape, measure from just behind the front legs all the way around your dog, similar to a belt measurement on a human. This is your dog's girth measurement. Very good collar, dogs seem to like them and don't pull. Make sure you follow the instructions and they're adjusted correctly. And, if the dog does pull it doesn't choke or hurt them. The rating on stretch is because I don't think they are supposed to stretch and they don't hardly at all. These were recommended to us by the San Diego Humane Society when they were puppies, been using them since for years and recommend them. Also, highly suggest passive training with a clicker and treats for your dog (use them in tantum)...never hit your dog, please...they respond much better to positive reinforcement training techniques. Some good positive training sites online.
