Just what I needed to close off a stainless bulkhead. I was a bit timid reading only half inch of thread but it’s plenty. I used it on a 55 gal drum and full with a thin liquid and it dropped about 1oz in a 24 hr. period. So I would wrap with plumbers tape.

The price was right for purpose as temporary npt plugs… cheaper than potable water brass plugs, and less likely to wear out from continuous moving about in a home water line refurbishment and update project I've set upon.In my case, I got these three stainless plugs thinking i would use them to stop up lines on my 1/2" galvanized steel home water system while doing a pex project. These are nice for cheap npt male plugs but can't be left permanently in galvanized steel, copper, or brass fittings without causing a lot of corrosion. Works fine for temporary work (and definitely they're likely more reusable in that application for short term purposes than galvanized steel or brass.) I'm still overhauling my home water pipe system and, so far, I've only had to use one of these plugs and it seems to have moved around fine with minimal distortion of the threads, minimal wear on the wrenching part, etc. There's rust staining forming quickly though on the stainless part of the plug exposed constantly to our good water here, so I imagine that this plug would corrode quickly if you used this in a galvanized piping system with cruddy water.UPDATE April 2021:The advertisement picture for this shows these as solid plugs. They're not. They are npt spec hollow plugs. This doesn't impact my use of them in any significant way but, if you're expecting a solid plug, be aware that these ain't!Three plugs turned out to be sufficient for my slow renovation of our old steel piping with Pex B. And the the corrosion on the plugs was less than I expected, and although, obviously, overtime, these will cause more corrosion than brass plugs, I'm leaving at least one of these in place and keeping an eye on how the old steel piping does around it. In otherwords, I haven't ordered the brass plugs yet and ain't planning to for awhile. Accordingly, I have upped the rating of these plugs from 3 to 4 stars. I figure by the time these plugs cause serious corrosion all the old galvanized steel pipe in our house will likely have been replaced anyways. ;/
