Usually a cone-shaped depression is made with a countersink tool to hold the head of the screw; and once put in place and tightened the head of the screw is covered with wood putty, sanded down and coated with a wood finish just like the rest of the woodworking project. Flat-head screws also get used in such general construction tasks as hanging drywall, mounting door hinges, mounting cabinets and installing tabletops.

These screw heads are very soft so you need to treat them with kids gloves. They worked great for installing 1/4 cedar tongue and groove , but, only use with hand tools ( no power drivers)!

I have had 5 of these screws break off while I was installing hardware into predrilled holes. I've never had this problem before but when you spend two hours making a finished product for a customer only to have it ruined because of poor metal strength in a screw...well, you can understand my disappointment.
