5.0 out of 5 stars Well, now I feel like I have Starbucks in my own kitchen
I’m tired of paying eight bazillion dollars at the coffee places. I was found and determined to make my own at home and I love this frothed. It’s really easy to figure out and I’ve tried all different milks. I’ve tried regular milk, oat milk, almond milk, and coconut milk. I think the oat milk frothed the best. But it worked on all of them. Honestly better than some of the coffee places I go to. It’s really durable and I feel I’ll probably have it for a long time. I feel very fancy sitting at my kitchen table having my latte and my cappuccino and imagine the money I’m going to save. I think it’s worth the initial purchase.

1.0 out of 5 stars Fatal design flaw - this unit will absolutely burn out
I bought this after a rando el-cheapo unit from a discount big box store simply quit working after six months. Figured, hey it's Bodum, a few extra dollars means quality, right? But No. Do NOT buy this. Some engineer/designer at Bodum messed up, badly. This thing should never have been released, and Bodum knows it. There are a couple warnings hidden in the manual about "don't do the thing everyone is going to do anyways or you may burn the unit out" - so they *know* this is a design flaw, but they sent it to market anyways.THE FATAL FLAW: The unit has a mechanical On/Off switch that is only overridden by the thermostat when the temperature gets high enough. When the temperature drops and the manual switch is still on, the unit will turn on until it heats up, then turns off, then turns on again when it cools down - lather, rinse, and repeat this heating/spinning/cooldown until it burns out. Hopefully the circuit breakers in your kitchen and house panel are functional and will keep a fried Bodum from burning your entire house down.Consider this scenario:1. As part of your "heading to work" routine, you make coffee and turn the manual switch on the Bodum to froth/heat some milk. Great, it worked. Pour that into your travel mug with your coffee.2. You rinse/wash out the Bodum, probably with warm/hot water3. You place the unit back in its stand. Because the unit is still warm, it's internal thermostat prevents it from turning on4. You hop in your car with your travel mug of coffee and warm, frothed milk (so far so good) and head to work5. BUT, you forgot to turn the mechanical switch OFF, didn't you (yes, you did - just like everyone will at some point)6. After the house is empty, the Bodum will now spend the entire day cooling down, and then automatically turning back on to heat and spin air, and then turning off when the unit gets too hot. Over and over and over until either it burns out - or you come home from work and notice the unit heating and spinning, and FINALLY, flip the mechanical switch OFF.Even the el-cheapo unit I originally bought got this design correct (not with quality parts, apparently, but at least they got the basic design correct). Frothers like this need a one-time ELECTRONIC switch that turns on, and then switches COMPLETELY OFF after the milk heats ONCE. The user then needs to push a physical button to turn it back on again.Until Bodum fixes this design/engineering flaw, buy something else.
5.0 out of 5 stars I read the directions!
I had an old Nepresso coffee maker with the frother on the side. The machine finally died so out it went along with the frother. I ordered this particular model because it was on sale and the brand is well known. When it arrived I read the directions. (Who does that?) The instructions said that the frother will heat the milk up to 70 C (158 F) then stop. It also said that when the temperature drops below 70C, it will turn itself on the bring the temperature back up. I used the frother the next morning forgetting about the directions. I poured more half and half into the frother than I needed. While I was reading the paper I heard a noise but didn’t pay much attention. The noise was the frother turning itself on and off to get the remaining milk up to 70C. It wasn’t until I found a film of burnt milk on the bottom of the frother and realized what happened. It had cooked the remaining milk until the was almost nothing left. My old frother wasn’t smart enough to do this. Now I know to turn the button off when done. The beauty of this is that you can froth enough milk for more than one cup and it will be hot for the second cup. Remember to turn it off when you are finished so the same thing won’t happen to you. My coffee had nice foamy half and half in it this morning.
4.0 out of 5 stars Milk brand matters
It didn't froth at all with the first kind of milk I tried, but it worked great with the second one. Customers having trouble should experiment with different milk brands before giving up.
5.0 out of 5 stars Super easy to use. Easy to clean. Takes up minimal space on the counter
The media could not be loaded. Easy to use. Easy to clean. Looks good on the counter. You can make enough milk froth for about 4 cups of coffee. It does a nice job of heating the milk, and makes a really nice pillow of whipped milk that rests nicely on top of the cup of coffee. It's not all froth though, there's plenty of liquid milk to create a really nice balance of cream and coffee. You don't have to use all the cream at once, the device will turn on periodically and keep the milk and froth ready for the next cup. I've used all types of milk, cream, half and half. It's easy to take out the whipping mechanism for cleaning. I clean after each use as there will be a little bit of milk on the bottom because of the heating, as should be expected. I'm happy with the purchase.

Perfect price and quality product!
Since receiving this electric milk frother, I’ve used it every day. It heats the milk perfectly and makes it very frothy. I have used it with homo milk, almond milk and even with skim and the froth consistency is exactly the same. I highly recommend this as Bodum is an excellent company with quality products and look at the price! What can Keurig or Nespresso milk frother do that the Bodum can’t at 1/3 of the cost? Also this is super easy to clean and dry with little effort which is a bonus!
Bodum milk frother
I am sure this is a great machine, but on receipt found it was not fitted with an english plug, my mistake but something to be aware of and the fact that it came from so far away, I thought it was something that Bolo distributed, again my mistake. All good though and returned accepted.
Works Just as Well as the Pricey Nespresso Model
I have the Nespresso unit at home for which I paid roughly $100. I never use the cold froth option so the fact that the Bodum doesn't have that was of no concern at all. The Bodum unit was intended for my office at work as I couldn't justify spending another $100 to have the Nespresso one at work as well. This turned out to be the perfect decision as this one froths just as fast, as quietly and as effectively as the Nespresso. I would say that the Nespresso unit is heavier and feels a bit more solid, but they both render the same result at a big different in cost.I used to use half and half in my frother but every time I had to clean it, it bothered me to see how much fatty gunk half and half left behind that I had to scrub off. It made me wonder about the buildup on my insides! I've since gone non-dairy and have found some amazing barista blend oat milks that froth exactly like half and half and with the same richness but nothing fatty left behind. A quick rinse and I'm done! Zero cholesterol and it makes me feel a whole lot better about my daily lattes. I'm doing the same with the Bodum and getting great results. Thick, rich and velvety but without the guilt and health concerns. Keep in mind, we are what we repeatedly do! Cheers.
