Description:
The Wharfedale LINTON represents one of the most iconic models in the long history of Wharfedale loudspeakers. A model that embodied the Wharfedale pioneering research through the 60s, 70s and 80s, with a bloodline dating back to 1965, LINTON has always been manufactured according to the Wharfedale principles of quality and value for money. The new Wharfedale LINTON further exemplifies these two edicts, balancing fine craftsmanship, natural sound quality and affordability inside a beautifully proportioned loudspeaker that has been bought in its millions right across the globe through it’s various incarnations. The original LINTON was well known for its warm, rich and natural sounding character and the new Wharfedale LINTON retains that standing but imbues it with an open, detailed performance that will entice you to explore your whole music collection, once more.

I just played the first 9 tracks of Primus' Primus Singles: They Can't All Be Zingers mostly above 80 dB. I could not do that with my previous speakers. What you've read in reviews and seen on YouTube is correct. These are legit! First: they ship from MoFi Distribution in Las Vegas via FedEx. I looked it up and yes, MoFi distributes Wharfedale in the US. They will arrive in four boxes prominently labeled with the Wharfedale name on the box. You'll need to sign for these. Mine had a couple of small gouges in the boxes but inside, there is plenty of protection. The speakers and stands are inside a fabric bag which is inside a plastic bag. Then, it is all surrounded by foam. There is absolutely nothing to do but remove them and place them in your room. The speaker stands are really nice and have large cone spikes already attached. Well, you do need to add the rubber isolation pads between the speakers and the stands. I stuck mine on the stands and then sat the speakers onto the stands. You'll also get a pair of white gloves with the stands and each speaker. The speakers are well constructed, and the finish is A+. Being a teenager in the 70's, I have an attraction to this style of speaker they are beauties. They are built to meet a price point, and the cabinets are a little hollow. If you are a diy type of person, you could buy some sheets of acoustic damping foam and add some to the inside. In time, I may do this. I've built quite a few speakers and am comfortable doing this. There is a company out there that will also sell you a crossover upgrade kit, but I'm happy.I've had these now for a week and I have them connected to a 1990 Denon DRA 1025RA that I bought new on sale for $999 in 1990. It is a 125 wpc unit. I have a Fluance RT85 with the Ortofon Blue and also an AT VM540 cartridge. I also have an Onkyo C-7030 CD player. These speakers are pretty sensitive at 90db and don't really need a lot of power. The first album on the table was Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here. Shine On You Crazy Diamond did not disappoint. Up next was Dire Straits: Brothers In Arms. You have to go big if you're going to rock a new set of speakers. Then, I went to Frank Zappa: Joe's Garage. I only played the first side of Album 1. But the voice of The Central Scrutinizer was as if he was in the room. Next up was Rickie Lee Jones: Pirates. One of my favorite old albums. I bought this record new in 1981 and it still sounds great. It's a good record to turn up and these speakers also delivered. Since I was playing old records, I grabbed my Steve Winwood: Arc of A Diver album, also purchased in 1980. I went straight to side B and boy, these speakers are good. Bill Withers: His Ultimate Collection is also another one you can listen to with some volume and not get fatigued.I have at least 500 CDs and started off with some Jazz. First up was Modern Jazz Quartet. If you like the sound of Vibraphone, Xylophone or Marimba, just buy their Four Classic Albums set. It is loaded with Vibraphone and sounds really good. Then, I grabbed the Rippingtons: Curves Ahead and Moonlighting CDs. These are all recordings you can listen to at higher volume if you like it that way. I also have a lot of classical music and it's all on CD. I grabbed LaStrada: The Best of (red disc). This disc has sounded great on any speaker I've played it on and these are no different. This is a group I discovered on a Rhine River Cruise.I like the sound of Bassoon, so I grabbed Mozart Clarinet and Bassoon Concerto on a Philips Digital Classics disc. You can actually hear the keys clicking and the pads hitting the holes of the bassoon. My philosophy is my speakers should be able to play both classical and rock and roll. Both have lots of strings, bass, horns and woodwinds. However, I've never heard Bassoon in a rock band.I bought the Lintons during the sale at the end of Oct, 2024 for $1,499 including stands. They do live up to the hype and based on today's prices, they are worth the money. Yes, a person with diy skills could spend the same money and build a better set of speakers that would sell for two or three times this money if they were built commercially. But, you could just buy these. I have four pieces of gear that will be included in my will and these speakers are included. My kids better treasure them!
5.0 out of 5 stars Believe the hype
I’m a big lover of vintage audio equipment but I have to admit I could never bring myself to spend $1700 plus on speakers attached to an 80s amp I bought for $200 in Hardoff Japan. So I always cheaped out on the speakers. However I took the plunge after reading the reviews on these speakers (plus from a British company) and wow. Worth every penny. I can hear every component of the sound stage. I’m using it with a 2000s era SONY ES amp. Clear as a bell. Matches well with my taste in music (early 80s British synth New Order, PSB etc). The audiophiles weren’t lying to me. The speakers make difference! It sounds lush and vibrant. Sounds like hooky is playing bass in my bedroom. I may buy another pair for my vintage Kenwood system. Blown away.
5.0 out of 5 stars Impressive Sound, Super Build Quality
Bought these for my father because he needed something smaller with a decent low-end. I was very surprised on both accounts. For their size, it's the cleanest low-end I've heard in a long time. Good character; they don't play harsh like studio monitors do of the same size. The stands are very impressive and wicked sturdy. Overall a really good addition to any room where one wants to listen to music and not just have it on in the background.
5.0 out of 5 stars Another Homerun By Wharfedale-So Happy!
Back a few years ago I bought on Bolo 2 pairs of the Wharfedale Dentons 80Th Anniversary Edition speakers and I love them. Since then, I've watched many favorable YouTube reviews on the Lintons and was encouraged to buy a pair along with their stands in the mohagany. I hooked them up to my vintage Kenwood KR-6050 receiver and they sound fantastic with the warm vintage sound so often I've heard mentioned by others that Wharfedale is known for. What a beautiful looking set, and a great price point for 3 way speakers. There may be others brands out there with possibly better performance, but just as beauty is in the eye of the beholder, the same goes for sound to one's ears. I have happy ears listening to classic rock, country, Jazz and classical. Really feel good on their value, looks and performance! I hope other owners are having the same enjoyment!
5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing audiophile quality speakers!
I heard from the big YouTubers that these were the best, and then I noticed a couple of vinyl collectors I know were using these too. So I was sold. And I couldn't be happier. They have amazing bass if you position them well and just sing. All types of music sounds amazing. Just make sure you have a good amp that can support them.
5.0 out of 5 stars An audiophile speaker, minus the audiophile price
These are speakers well worth the audiophile label. They have the detail, dynamic range, imaging, and frequency response balance one expects in very high-end speakers, but at a price that's hard to believe. Driven with a good amplifier and high-resolution music (particularly vinyl), these speakers deliver a life-like performance.
5.0 out of 5 stars Better quality than the furniture you can buy these days!!!
You will not be disappointed by these beauties. Awesome quality together with spot on sound.

The look reminds me of my early speakers when I was a teenager. These are heavy...keep that in mind! The sound is great. The highs (treble) are good (the best with good guality class D - like PS Audiofor example) the mid section is were this shines. Bass is OK I run with a sub. This does down low...but I wish it was lower.I tried this out with an Emotiva A2 and the sound, although fantastic, was too dark for some music (Type O Negative and 5 Five Finger Death Punch for example). With PS Audio S300 these speakers sing. Highs and low feel more balanced! The seller is amazing too. Will buy more from them in the future!

If you are looking for Audiophile grade speakers in this price range, you will be more than happy with these speakers. I almost decided not to get the matching stands, but as I installed them it was clear they were necessary. Dynamic range is really good and although my soundstage and imaging were less than i expected, it was the room... I set them up in a different and more traditional room and it was great... impressive even. I would also mention that I already had a sub-woofer in the system but quickly removed it as it was completely unnecessary. The bass was rich, detailed, clear, and articulate. Not muddy or bloated at all. Just wow. IM SO HAPPY. I had the idea that i would eventually move toward the Klipsch Heritage series, but feel if those speakers sound better, I doubt they will be 3500 euros better. ;)
