5.0 out of 5 stars Works well and turned my blue denim jacket black

    D.t.k.t.d. · May 27, 2025

(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } This product was cheap and effective. I had a blue denim jacket that clashed too much with my outfits, so I wanted to dye it black. I bleached the jacket first to make it lighter in color, then went through the dye treatment and color fixative. The dye distributed evenly and is nice and dark. The color fixative made the rinsing process very fast and I am very happy with the results.I used a clean 5 gallon bucket from the hardware store to do the treatment and followed the directions and had great results. Note that the dye will not work on any polyester thread, so the thread on my jacket stayed a different color which I actually really like the look of.

I tried the product again and realized that I had misunderstood the description. I thought it would dye my old blue jeans black and was disappointed when it didn't. However; I tried it again and it worked beautifully for renewing my old black jeans and refreshing my dark rinse Levis. I used it in my washer and followed the online instructions. Excellent Rye quality I've always been pleased with.

Make sure you pay attention to the wieght measurements of what you are dyeing per the instructions, or you will end up with things looking blue. This jet black is in fact blacker than their regular black, but all black pigment is blue to some degree from what I understand so just be aware.you may want to order more than one kit for a large project

5.0 out of 5 stars Great dye

Besides needing more dye, you get what you pay for, definitely did help take out bleach stains and you would need to dye it multiple times for a deep blackc but hasn’t faded or bled onto anything, highly recommended

3.0 out of 5 stars Takes Time and A LOT of Water

    T. · March 19, 2025

If I knew how much effort dyeing my pants would take, and how much water I would need to use, I may have continued wearing my faded black pants as is. The idea of re-using old clothing is nice, but instead of dyeing, it's more economical and environmentally friendly to let the clothing fade and keep wearing it. I would only recommend using this product on clothing that is irreplaceable. For something like my pants, which are already around 7 years old, I could buy another pair for $50-$100 and keep wearing the faded ones at home or when working outside. Clothing that is faded is often worn in other ways too and may not last much longer after being dyed.I used the bucket method for dying the cotton pants. 60 minute soak in hot water with salt, small squirt of dish soap, plus the full bottle of dye. The instructions say to stir "consistently" so I set a timer to move the pants around in the dye every 10 minutes. Then another 20 minutes in the color fix with more hot water, stirring every 5 minutes. Then hand washed in another bucket with laundry detergent. Lastly, I repeatedly filled and emptied two 5 gallon buckets of water, trying to rinse the pants. The instructions say to rinse until the water begins to be clear. My rinse water was black every time I poured it out. Eventually I got tired of squeezing water out of the pants over and over and put them in my washing machine for one last double rinse. At this point I must have used at least 30 gallons of water, a lot of that being hot water, and still the pants left behind black dye in the washing machine after two rinse cycles. The pants now look very black and like-new. But due to the cost of the product, the cost of heating gallons and gallons of water, the cost of using many more gallons of cold water, and the roughly two hours I spent on this plus all the cleanup time, I don't know if I would do this again.

AMAZING!! I work at a job that I have to wear BLACK jeans. They can't be faded AT ALL. Needless to say, black fades like crazy, plus, I had tossed my other work jeans into the washer and I guess it picked up the bleach from the load before so it made them splotchy. Well, these are the only brand of jeans that fit me perfectly and they cost $40/ pair. Can't afford a new pair right now so I went with RIT dye. It was so easy to use. I mixed half the bottle, salt and dish soap, PER PAIR. I will be using this $10 fix again!! Saved me a bundle by not having to buy two new pairs of jeans to be at dress code. You can see by the photos the results.

This should be something I enjoy. It should be right up my alley I enjoy dying clothes. However.First off, my pictures. The dye works better at permanent staining my furniture and countertops than it does on the tshirts. Also I did the stove top method, and it’s near impossible to get the dripping tshirts out of the dye without getting everywhere. All over the stove. It’s really hard to clean off. It leaves this really weird residue. So that’s frustrating.Dying the clothing in of itself is a very time consuming process, especially if ur hoping to dye more than one item. The bottle says you can dye two things with half of it, so u will only be able to dye *maybe* 4 things black at most. Maybe. If it’s a dark color already, namely dark gray the dye will do nothing. But I mean, dye works best on white and lighter colors anyway.I tried to dye 3 things black and one thing would dye grey because it had too much poleyester in it. Bear that in mind too.The black things I dyed multiple times, and by day 3 of staying up til 3am trying get a cohesive color I was exhausted, I’ll be honest. It’s very blotchy, which gets frustrating given how it takes an hour to be able to dye it again to try and fix the blotches. It takes 50 minutes minimum before u can try dye it again. The items that were black I had to dye 3-4 times and they were still blotchy. I fully got so mad and started dipping a paint brush into the dye itself, not diluted in anything to fix the blotches by hand. Not even sure if *that* works. The gray thing looks tye dyed. I only tried this on tshirts. Which u would think would be the best and easiest thing for dye to work on. But oh well. I am exhausted by this product. I can’t say I reccommend.

Why didn't I take photos!? The difference is night & day. You'll have to take my word for it. Baseball cap was faded with stain marks, and jeans were faded and especially worn around the knees. I only used 50% of both bottles... as I read the full bottle would do a lot more than what I intended to dye plus to save for another time down the track when both items need a re-dye. Did the sink method. Had the water hot, salt, detergent, kept adding hot (from the kettle) but not too much as to dilute. left to soak for 90 mins to 120mins. Drained. Then added more hot water (from the tap only) for the stabiliser. Soaked for 40 mins. Drained. Put in the machine for a quick rinse and spin. Came out better than expected especially noticeable when fully dried. Great stuff! Fully recommend.
