The “science” behind this product is that the little ceramic plate heats up to 120-125 degrees Fahrenheit within a few seconds, which should be pressed against a bug bite. This rapid heat “denatures” the proteins within insect’s salivas/venoms that are irritating your flesh, causing the “bug bite.”This temperature does NOT burn flesh within that short of a timeframe (again, ages 8+ for more thickened skin). Does it create a sharp, burning pain? YES (for example, 120 degrees is similar to a sun-exposed seat belt, or about as hot as a water heater will get for tap). Unless you have no feeling to that area. Does the pain go away within seconds? YES. Does it truly denature the proteins and relieve the pain/itchiness? YES. If it doesn’t work the first time, use it again after ~5min (per instructions), and to let your skin rest. These people leaving 1-star reviews because of “heat” are missing the entire concept of this item, of course it’s “hot,” it’s literally destroying the chemicals CREATING the itchiness!!**Pro Tip** if the bite is still itchy/painful after hitting it a few times, and/or after a few days, apply 1% hydrocortisone BiD. Theres a certain threshold where the itchiness/pain isn’t from the insects proteins anymore, but rather caused by our bodily response. And this item will NOT improve itchiness/pain caused by our own body. This item ONLY assists by destroying insect proteins.

I love this product! I am a huge mosquito magnet. We just put a pool in and I have been outside nonstop and tried everything repellent, a crazy mosquito fogger machine, torches, EVERYTHING besides putting myself in a bubble! I got the bite away product and put it on a bite and it zaps your skin feels like a slight burn for 3 or 5 seconds but that is so much worth it instead of feeling the itchiness from a bite. 10/10 recommend

Ok so it works. I was as skeptical as possible, even after an application or two, but it's pretty clear at this point going into 2 months of ownership and probably 50-60 mosquito bites later that it objectively works.It's not 100% effective but most of the time it is and, when it works, the bites either disappear entirely or at least calm down in appearance and lose the attention grabbing itchiness. I think the key is hitting them hard and fast, right away. Get inside the house, let your spouse judge you as you aggressively pin down every last one of them, and give yourself relief. If you try to get one that's older, your miles may vary. I'm sure there's a reason why that might be, maybe the demon protein has already established itself to our immune system at that point.I'm literally typing this review up after I just got annihilated outside with 20 bites in 25 mins, my ankles and calves were absolutely on fire with itchiness, and now I don't really feel anything. But yes I'll probably clap back at a few of them just to be extra certain that they are dead.But the reason I'm only giving 4 stars is that the heat in this thing is extremely inconsistent. Mine either doesn't heat up enough or it heats up entirely too much and feels like its actually burning me at a temp way above spec. Sometimes it hits in the range that seems appropriate, where it's just a slightly more than mildish satisfying sting, but other times I'm thinking it's going to cause a blister.It's very weird, and inappropriate, for a supposed medical device to be completely unpredictable in terms of the temperature of the device when it makes contact with your skin.

Why did you pick this product vs others?:It works! It feels like you lit a match on your skin, but you are not actually burning yourself. So don't panic and pull it away. Just keep it pressed for the full treatment time. It works so amazingly to stop my itching. I haven't found a more effective alternative yet.

Wish I would have read the negative reviews. I read the positive ones and purchased based on those. Received the product and it did not work at all. No lights, no beep, nothing. Instructions indicated batteries were supplied and to start with inserting them. No batteries were in the box. We had some at home so we wanted to open the battery compartment but it just wasn't moving at all, and the button was stuck in the depressed position as it had already been used. We finally did get it open and found the batteries inside. One battery came out, the other one would not come out. We tried it with those batteries and as mentioned it was DOA. We wanted to return it but you cannot return it and have to contact Bolo customer service. We called Bolo and thankfully got a refund. Went to go order another one figuring maybe we just got a lemon, but this time looked at more reviews and found that there were plenty of complaints regarding this thing giving error codes and/or no longer functioning after a short period of time. We will not give it a second shot. Rather, we'll look for something else.

I originally was upset when I couldn’t return this item. I did not realize how it worked and as someone with fibromyalgia this was not a good fit (nothing wrong with the product, with fibromyalgia my body reacts differently to stimulus). I just wrote a negative review and figured lesson learned.The seller reached out to me, which isn’t easy and spent the time working with me. I honestly was surprised because good customer service is rare these days and Great! Customer service is even more rare. I really appreciate this seller. My opinion was valued. Bravo! Bravo!The company-seller contacted me. They are saying they will help resolve the issues. I’ll update again. It does get hot but only for a second. (Certainly not hot enough to burn you) When I vacation in the Caribbean I get bitten and the bites itch like crazy......not anymore!I heard about this product from a fellow vacationer who was kind enough to lend it to me at the resort, I immediately came home and purchased one.
