As the saying goes, not all that glitters is gold. But then again, not all that is gold necessarily glitters. It was this idea that struck Finnish singer Tarja Turunen as she began work on her seventh solo album, In The Raw . Gold, we think, is something polished and perfect, sophisticated, a luxury but in its natural state it s a raw element , explains Tarja. Just like the music on her upcoming album: a combination of sophisticated and refined orchestration, choir and her classically trained voice with a raw, dark heavy musical core. Simply put, In The Raw is a gold-plated work of wonder. Three years on from her last album, 2016 s The Shadow Self , In The Raw finds Tarja and her beautiful voice sounding, as ever, truly stunning. Working with many of the same musicians and production team as before, the intention was to bring out the idea of rawness to match the feelings Tarja was having from the very beginning of the process. The album finds Tarja going to raw, personal places in her lyrics. Opening herself up more than ever before, she says she was left feeling naked by her honesty, but also pleased at where she had gone with her words.

I'll keep it short because no one reads these:Tarja's last album was terrible. Just awful. I've been a fan of Tarja since My Winter Storm and all of her albums (excluding the aforementioned) have been great in my book. "In the Raw" returns to that heavy rock operatic sound that defined Tarja's solo acts, except this album expands on it by adding powerful guest vocals on the album (Maybe one day we'll get our wish of a duet between Tarja and Roy Khan). I listened to this album in full 4 times before forming an opinion on it. Each listen gave me something new to appreciate of the album. This is clearly Tarja's greatest album by far. Buy it, don't stream it. Give the artists the money they need to continue creating content!

I immediately listed to this album all weekend, Tarja continues to put out quality music. The variety of music and vocals on this album show the Tarja can do it all! Metal fans will be satisfied, but all fans will appreciate how she dips into other genres. There's even an opera sounding track! It's too hard to say what the best Tarja album is, but this 8s definitely a default choice. She's one of the best female rock vocalists of all time and deserves to be called the queen of metal. Fantastic album.

In The Raw is one of Tarja's solo albums. I enjoyed listening to her when she sang for Nightwish and I enjoy her solo work. She is going her own way and exploring a variety of styles, which is fine by me. Do not get this if you expect something "just like" her other work and won't accept anything else. Definitely get this if you want to go along with Tarja on her artistic journey.

The reason why I gave this album 4 stars is because nothing will beat Colours In The Dark for me. That's my favorite Tarja album. That being said In The Raw is definitely classic Tarja. It has the intrusmental/forgein language track, the heavy symphonic metal tracks and the ballad. It's just missing the 80s cover.There is something different about In The Raw. Whatever it is I like it. Then again I love Tarja.

Absolutely amazing music and vocals. Tarja outdid herself with this musical masterpiece. SENSATIONAL Hair raising vocals along with some very tender notes. It will definitely be on repeat for quite some time. It may be Tarja's best and I love all of her other work. Recommended purchase.This is much more than an album, it's a total "Experience" The album just gets better and better with every listen and it was incredible to begin with.Warning: It's an extremely addictive album and that's a good thing.

Like most people I've been following Tarja since her departure from Nightwish. Unfortunately I think every release has been weaker and weaker. In the Raw is no exception. I found myself liking half the album and hating the other half. The ones I hated I found boring and over produced. I'm not sure I'll buy another Tarja album prior to giving it a listen first. If I could I'd give this 2.5 stars.

Tarja bietet stimmlich ganz großes Kino. Sehr abwechslungsreich, mal im Stil von Nightwish, dann wieder sehr ruhige Titel, in denen ihre Stimme toll zur Geltung kommt. Auch das Cover der LP ist sehr ansprechend. Sehr zu empfehlen.
