Radio or tape was all I have, otherwise I could drive around with my AirPods in…It took me a while to figure out which of these to buy. But I finally settled on this one. One thing to note, if you can’t decide which “brand” is best, they may look like they’re made for different companies, but they all appear to be the exact same manufacture, still the tape ‘type’ matters. Full disclosure, I also bought an official Apple dongle at the same time, so I know I have a good adapter. If you don’t have Bluetooth in your car but have a tape deck, I believe this is the best available option. I looked at the Bluetooth tape but keep in mind you need to charge its battery, you can’t charge it while it’s in use either, and you have to turn the tape on and off, I don’t want to have to remember to eject the tape and turn it off every time I get out, and turn it on and insert the tape every time I get in. This version lets you just plug and play, that’s all that’s required. If you’ve read any reviews saying the sound quality is “just terrible” and “has horrible distortion”, they’re unaware of one of the most important sound mixing/console/PA principles: never have your input volume at maximum level; it’s really user error. When you have multiple volume controls on a singular source to output your originating volume should be roughly at 70-80%. So, think about how you have your phone to the tape then the tape to your stereo, your phone needs to be at mid to mid-high volume level (or just under where you hear distortion), then your stereo volume can go as high as you want it to and you won’t get any distortion; in fact, the clarity was so striking to me i felt this review was absolutely necessary for me to write.
5.0 out of 5 stars It just works!
We bought a very old RV to get away in the hot summers. It came with a cassette tape player. We didn't want the expense of replacing the player with new capabilities. This adapter allows us to use our phone to play back music and books-on-tape through the RV speakers. Works very well.
1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth the money - poor quality
It produces very poor sound quality that makes the sound echo, mute and sound far away like it's in a tin can. I know it was this product and not the sound system because I replaced this product with another company's product and that one works superbly. Not worth the money.
4.0 out of 5 stars Simple product, so-so sound
I popped this adapter in, plugged it in, and was listening to music - super easy! Unfortunately, the sound is just a little flat and tinny, no matter how much I adjust the phone volume up and down, radio volume up and down, etc. At the best setting (about 60% phone volume, then the actual volume adjustment on the car stereo), the sound quality is a lot like a old cassette tape (hmmm... I wonder why...). For the cost, it is definitely worth the price. In hindsight I'm debating a little about whether I should have spent the couple of extra dollars getting the bluetooth version, but this one is more than fine - I'll keep it as long as I have my old car with the cassette player.
5.0 out of 5 stars Happy to see a strain-relieved plug on this unit when my earlier Radio Shack unit failed there.
I had a similar unit but made by Radio Shack, installed in the cassette player of my 2005 vehicle, which allowed me to listen to music on my smart phone. It died when the inherently week junction between its cord and its plug frayed. I’m delighted to find that the Arsvita replacement has a far more robust and strain-releived junction and commend them for the company’s extra effort to provide a good, lasting product at a modest cost.
2.0 out of 5 stars It's Alright
So to start, it came pretty quick and nicely with it's own box and all. This particular cassette player has quite a few qood reviews but honestly I don't know why because once I used it the audio isn't that very good. It sounds really basic like there's no bass at all even after turning up the bass in my car. Like it has it's own output that you can't change. The music just sounds bland overall. My other cassette player I had sounded way better, there bass, treble and everything else. I guess it's just a generic brand kind of cassette... I would suggest picking a different one honestly.I would give it 1 star but it actually works just not very good.
3.0 out of 5 stars Not durable, Great until it wasn't
Worked great for a few weeks, clean audio quality. Unfortunately the plastic bit that covers the aux input came off and I tried to tape it back (the teal in the picture) but the audio cuts in and out sometimes now.
5.0 out of 5 stars Does what it needs to do
This was a present for my son who loves his classic cars but still wants his music. He said that this was a brilliant piece of kit. His mates all have adapters but they are usually crackly or dull sounding, but this one seems the best of the lot. A great buy - he was really happy with it.
Great sound

only plays in mono
I can't imagine there is a huge market for these, but I have a classic car with a tape player.I bought this as it specifically stated it works in stereo, so thought I'd attach my old ipod to use in the car.Unfortunately it only plays in Mono, not stereo as advertised.I contacted support, who suggested I alter the "balance" on the head unit... as if that wasn't the very first thing I checked!. To be fair, they did ask if I ran some more tests and it doesn't work I could contact them for a refund or replacement.Unfortunately it still only plays in Mono, so I can't really recommend this one.
Does the job but sound quality not brilliant
Does the job, can get audio from my phone into the cassette player in old car. Unfortunately the sound quality isn’t the best, lacking a lot of bass and the interference noise is quite load. Not bad for the money but better for podcasts than for music
