At my local supermarket I've been buying ordinary kimchi, most brands were similar to one another. They were adequate, but no more than that. I recently read an article explaining that fermented products contribute strongly to gut health and thought, "I need that. Time for me to start including kimchi into the big salad I eat every day!" For "once in a while" I was willing to let the supermarket buyer pick the brand, but for daily use I need to make that decision myself. I looked closely at every kimchi Bolo offers. When I got to Madge's I re-read it several times. Vegan, good! I'm not a vegan myself but I do eat top quality salmon every day in its own oil, and didn't want any anonymous "fish oil" in it. No sugar, good! I'm a diabetic, but besides that sugar masks the flavor of the kimchi ingredients. As I read the description, it definitely looked as if Madge is offering a premium grade kimchi. The only remaining decision was mild or spicy. I expected to prefer the mild, but ordered both to be sure. They arrived well packaged. I tried the mild first, and found it even better than expected, a pure healthy taste. The next day I tried the spicy and was delighted with it as well. The heat level seemed appropriate, a sharp tang that matched the pure healthy taste. I liked them both so I got to thinking about a medium spice level, then realized I already had it. I could just mix the mild and spicy in my salad to any heat level I liked. Finally, Mike & Madge show a sense of humor in the information sheet they included with the order. Looks as if they're a young couple with lots of personality, starting a new business intent on offering the best kimchi there is. They're now responsible for supplying all my kimchi from now on!

Why did you pick this product vs others?:I love Kimchi, my parents met during the Korean War, so I love all things Korean/Asian; this Kimchi is musheso aka delicious

I bought this kimchi because I’m a dietary vegan with food allergies, but I’m trying to expand my diet and better my gut health. Made the mistake of heating up the kimchi the first time I tried it, and it was still tasty, but my gut definitely felt that later on. Chose to eat it cold by itself with meals or as a burger topping, and that worked out much better. I think it might have triggered some weight loss for me as well (just an added [but not certain] benefit; results might vary depending on the person). My only gripe is that I paid way too much for this here on Bolo, as the shipping costs are included in the overall price. You’ll pay half the price if you buy this on the Shop app, which I did this month and got 2 jars of the regular instead of one, plus the spicy, which I have yet to try.

The jar was expanding and exploded when opened spraying the most-awful stinking juices on the cabinets and floors. The odor was so bad, that we double-bagged the sealed jar and carried it outside before working to clean the kitchen. A few hours later, the entire first floor of our house still stinks. I am an American, and while adventurous with food, I am not a kimchi connoisseur and was just looking for additional probiotics. Perhaps this is normal for kimchi, I'm not sure, but we certainly couldn't do it.

It seems that the makers solved the leakage problem by pouring off all juice before shipping. Yep! There's no leakage when there's no juice. I was very disappointed that my jar of kimchi arrived drained of almost every drop of juice. And, no, there was no liquid in my box at all. Anyway, I'm eating it and it tastes good. I'm just miffed that it has no liquid to go with the cabbage. Dry kimchi.
