5.0 out of 5 stars Be patient, download manual and learn all your AVR can do.

    D. · June 26, 2020

Well built quality unit. Many settings via on screen menus once TV is connected. Big learning curve for average person. There is a set up assistant that does a good job showing you where to connect everything and walks you through it. It sets up speaker levels etc. This can be manually done also. I used the assistant then tweaked it a bit. Each speaker can be adjusted individually in volume and tone if desired. Be patient. If something is not right it's most likely a setting. My setup defaulted to the unit auto turing on to TV and only the 2 main front speakers and center speaker coming on. I could manually correct this every time by changing input to cable/ satellite and turing on all speakers with remote, but was annoying. 2 settings were wrong. I had to download the almost 400 pg manual and print it to figure out these 2 issues and learned much more. Very customizable. Only complaint is it's very pricy. If you don't need 13.1 surround you can get a similar unit that's 7.1 or 9.1 for a third the price.

2.0 out of 5 stars hd radio

You use to be able to find an AVR with HD radio. Not anymore not even if you spend 5k on it

5.0 out of 5 stars Sometimes You Get What You Need

    G.M. · November 10, 2018

I bought this unit to replace an Onkyo that died well before its time. Sometimes you get what you need, because I can't find a single thing about the 8500 that isn't significantly or vastly better than the Onkyo. When you need a feature, it's there, and it works beautifully. The auto room setup was much better, providing excellent speaker distance calculations, and a much larger sweet spot than I could ever get before. The distance adjustments can be manually adjusted if a different stereo image focus is desired, and the MultiEQ Room equalization can be fine tuned with the Audyssey MultEQ Editor App. You'll need a stylus to make fine adjustments if you run the MultiEQ Editor on a phone. I added an AC Infinity AIRCOM T9 fan unit for temperature control, and it works well. If the amp is working hard enough to need higher T9 fan speeds, the volume covers the sound of the fans. If you have a complex setup, or an upcoming expansion, this is the one.

1.0 out of 5 stars How to turn a Denon fan into a dissatisfied customer....

    P. · August 31, 2019

I've purchased many Denon products over the past and have usually been a satisfied consumer. Not any longer. I acquired this item and installed it into my home theater cabinet. Not an easy process by any means, but it was successfully hooked up with no issues. Unfortunately, two weeks after installation the right front door hinge broke into two pieces. This is a cheap, 25 cent part that has no business being part of this unit. It is also virtually impossible to reinstall once its broken without returning the whole receiver to the factory - as their uncooperative technician told me. I will now live without the front door as I'm not about to go through the process of deinstallation, shipment to the factory, waiting for its return, and then reinstallation into the home theater system. Don't need this aggravation with a product that carries this price tag. Last Denon product I will purchase!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Receiver

    L.F. · October 5, 2018

The X8500H is a great receiver which supports all the current standards and the upgradability to support many future codecs. There are so many HDMI inputs you will never run out. The scaler works well making my poor Comcast signal look good scaled up to 4K. While the receive outputs a lot of power it is not really enough to power my SVS Ultra Towers which have built-in dual 8" subs. The receiver goes thermal when playing longer tracks with heavy bass. If you are using standard smaller fronts you will not have a problem. There is plenty of power to run a more standard 7.1.6 or 9.1.4 config.

5.0 out of 5 stars A flagship indeed!!

    z. · March 22, 2019

Yes it is very expensive but I hope this will last for many years to come. It has certainly raised the bar in my home theater, particularly as it relates to sound. My theater now has 15.2 speakers. I literally have 15.2 speakers arranged in 7.6.2 format with two additional ceiling speakers in bridge mode for coverage. Now even listening to the local news is an improvement. :-)I like to tinker and tweak to my heart's content and you can do this with the Denon AVR-X8500H but it is so feature rich that I find myself appreciative of the many wizards that you can use to configure the receiver to your particular preferences. I have only had this receiver since November of last year so I am still learning and configuring the many options available, but already I can say, without any reservations, this receiver is not a hype and it is definitely worth the price. Hoorah!

2.0 out of 5 stars Does not have a UL listed decal anywhere on the unit.

    M. · June 18, 2020

No UL list for such an expensive unit???How can we trust an electrified unit will not catch FIRE if it is not tested and dosen't conform to the electrical requirements of our US testing process. As a builder, this is important. Don't want my houses to burn down!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars 13 amp channels included

    T. · September 5, 2018

This is by far the best AV receiver I have ever bought. I have many previous Denon AVRs (4520s and 7200WA) in other systems, and in some ways this is an upgraded version with a very important difference for me, namely 13 channels of amplification. Previously with the 7200WA, I used an external 2 channel power amp to get 11 channels (4 Dolby Atmos overhead). The added two channels in my home theater setup are for front wide speakers. It’s great for a more complex setup to have 13 channels available. So far it has performed flawlessly. Not cheap, but for a Dolby Atmos / DTS:X setup, worth considering.

    Very sensitive and finicky receiver

    A.K. · May 14, 2024

Sound quality and connectivity to all media very good. However , receiver remote is very finicky especially for young people.....very easy to inadvertently press wrong keys necessitating many hours of "snakes and ladders" to restore settings. (manual consists of hundreds of pages of features) Receiver has suddenly stopped sending all video through the HDMI plugs to my projection system/televisions. Very few repair facilities requiring very costly shipping to repair (can buy a new 7.2 system for the shipping cost alone). Very disappointed as this receiver has not had much use from new. Looks like this unit has become a very expensive boat anchor. Due to issues do not recommend Denon as very poor value for money spent,

This Avr is the best piece of electronic that I have ever bought. i should have
