5.0 out of 5 stars Works as good as the Snapon wrench
Not like the cheap oil wrenches. A must for changing oil on late model Toyota and Lexus. Not made as good as the Snapon wrench, but it does the job.
5.0 out of 5 stars CTA Tools 1726 Oil Filter Wrench NOT impact rated . . . but, you gotta do what you gotta do.
I got tires and an oil change for a 2011 Toyota Highlander at Pepe Boys. The guy who did the oil change MUST have used an impact wrench to tighten the oil filter cover, thank God it was aluminum and strong enough to at least not shatter like a plastic one would have.Soon after, I noticed drips of oil on the driveway, put the Highlander up on ramps and went under to see what was leaking. Turned out it was the oil filter cover, which had been damaged by Pepe Boys.I bought a cheap oil filter cover removal tool and tried to remove it but had no luck.I tried to loosen it with a 1/2" socket wrench, wouldn't budge.I tried to loosen it with a 36" breaker bar, wouldn't budge.I tried to loosen it with a 3/8" impact wrench with 220 lb./ft. breaking power, wouldn't budge.I tried to loosen it with a 1/2" impact wrench with 1200 lb./ft breaking power, the cheap removal tool broke.Next, I bought this CTA Tools 1726 Oil Filter Wrench.Tried the breaker bar again, no luck.Tried the 3/8" impact, no luck.Tried the 1/2" impact on mode 1, no luck.Tried the 1/2" impact on mode 2, the filter finally surrendered. The 1726 Oil Filter Wrench shows no signs of damage. So, how much torque did this withstand? I have no idea, but the 3/8" was 220 lb./ft., mode 2 on the 1/2" was maybe 500 ft./lb. (???) I have no idea, but a LOT of ft./lb.If I had the plastic housing, it no doubt would have broken and the menace at Pepe Boys over torqued to 400+ ft./lb. and damaged the aluminum Toyota oil filter cover.Would I recommend the CTA Tools 1726 Oil Filter Wrench? Absolutely, the cheapo copy of the Toyota wrench broke, this worked.Would I be afraid of carefully applying impact wrench power to this? Not at all, this thing easily handled at least 500 ft./lb. If that doesn't remove your oil filter cover, then you're going to need to take it to the dealer and probably the entire housing will need to be replaced, so you don't have a lot to lose.As far as the way it's built, it's thick, high strength metal and it's welded at the ring that fits over the oil filter, the weld is the weak point and the weld appears to be quite strong. The torque spec for the oil filter cover is 18 ft./lb., so you can easily hand tighten it. Best policy is to never allow anyone to change your oil if you have this type of oil filter cover, because they are NOT going to torque it properly.
5.0 out of 5 stars Quality Toyota oil change tool
Stout tool for Toyota oil filter cap. Works well.
5.0 out of 5 stars amazing 10/10
Love this tool, works on subaru honda and toyota filters, we used this at my old job and they hold up like nothing else. worth the extra money for sure
5.0 out of 5 stars Toyota Oil Wrench
Purchased used Toyota and had read horror stories on removing the canister for the filter. When it came time to change the oil we purchased the CTA 1726 canister removal tool.Removal with the tool was easy, and did not damage the housing in any way. Used a 1/2 ratchet and extension to attach it to the canister. Yes, I thought $28 was pricy for an oil wrench .... but when it works without any problems, and makes the job go smoothly.... it didn't seem to be pricy any more.
4.0 out of 5 stars Tech tip
Working on Toyota's all day. This bad boy works great changing canister filters. It won't tear up the plastic housing like the other Toyota style will. Also it fits Honda spin on filters fyi and the Subaru burning ring of fire filter if you run into those. Only one flaw. The 1/2" drive wears out over time. Just replace it before it rounds out and smacks you in the face with the ratchet.
5.0 out of 5 stars Best Toyota tool.
Best Toyota oil filter tool you can buy. Does create a small mess but works best.
5.0 out of 5 stars Best Toyota tool
This will fit on 4622(6607) [just cross reference these numbers to your filter brand numbers as well as 4477. They as advertised fit on the housing for toyota cartridgre filters. 5608, 5609 and 5702. I am former lube shop manager, but I had to have one for home as well since people still have me do their oil changes.. In the shop I had access to all varieties of cups for Toyota but this IS the best one by far in my opinion. I did witness one of my employees break one while removing a filter from a Toyota. I do believe however that it was due to the dealership overtightening the housing. It has a 1/2" drive (square hole) so use a that size ratchet or add an increasing adapter to a 3/8 size ratchet. Don't overtighten using this tool when putting the housing back on the car, the plastic housing COULD break. Keep in mind Toyota does make a metal version of the plastic housing, they are interchangeable.
IT WORKS!
After using genuine tool which was not that great and some others this one is the one to buy.
cheaper than the OEM part
Kinda pricy, but it is the cheapest of the wrenches that work for the Toyota matrix/lexus isf/toyota corolla/etc. This is the tool that most shops use for compatible Lexus/Toyota products. Only other complaint is that it has only a single weld holding the tool together, however it has held up for years.p.s. do not buy one of those cheap cap style wrenches with the teeth, they do not work.
