It is compatible with Makita 18V LXT Lithium-Ion batteries (sold separately). The XTR01Z is engineered for a full range of cabinetry and woodworking applications. It has a variable speed control dial (10,000 – 30,000) RPM) to match the speed to the application, with electronic speed control to maintain constant speed under load and soft start feature for smoother startups and better accuracy. Convenience features include the smooth rack-and-pinion fine depth adjustment system for more precise settings, dual L.E.D. lights to illuminate the work surface, and a quick release cam lock system for convenient depth adjustments and base removal/installation. Additional bases and attachments are available (sold separately). For users of corded Makita Compact Routers (models RT0700C, RT0701C), the bases used with these corded routers are fully compatible with the XTR01Z. In addition, the XTR01Z easily connects to Makita vacuum cleaners with the optional dust nozzle for improved dust extraction. I have a large variety of Makita cordless tools and was needing a router. This item knocks it out of the park! It takes some study to make sure it is set up correctly, but with any high grade tool you can expect a small leaning curve. This router did not disappoint. The entire set up is first class. Thank you Makita for making yet another superior product! Now just get that 18v brushless ratchet out on the market so I can buy it!

I'm very happy with this compact router. It has plenty of power and is much less cumbersome than my larger corded Dewalt plunge router. At this point, it's my go-to router and I only use the Dewalt when I'm working on an especially hard wood, I need the plunge feature, or if the depth of the cut is especially deep and I want to make fewer passes. If anything could be improved about this router, it would be that Makita could add at least one more, larger base plate that would be helpful for stabilizing the router for edge trimming. Also, a square shaped base plate would be a great add-on as well since for a few projects that is a better shape. Ultimately, I'm making a variety of plates myself and it's no deal breaker.
